Poor thing!

I was walking up to the supermarket earlier, when an obviously dead animal lying on the grass verge caught my eye At first glance I thought it was either a very small dog, or a large cat, but as I approached I could clearly see it was a fox, and a very pretty one. I think it must have been hit by a car, although it had no apparent injuries

It was still there when I walked home over an hour later, so I have reported it to the council. Poor thing, I couldn't see what sex it was, in the position it was lying, but I hope it wasn't a vixen with cubs

Oh that's so sad
Foxes really are beautiful animals, we quite often see one when out. Walking Billy through the woods a few months ago we came across some cubs playing. One of the loveliest things I've ever witnessed. I quickly got Bill on his lead and stood and watched from a distance for a while.

What a shame, Kaz.

We have "urban foxes" round here, and we have seen them occasionally out front of the house, usually at dead of night, but they were a bit of a menace with the rubbish bags until we got wheelie bins. Not as bad as the magpies, though ....

Oh! Poor thing.

Foxes are such lovely animals. We used to sometimes get one passing through our Lodge gardens,
but we haven't seen one for about a year now.

Thanks Ossie, yes they are adept at getting into bin bags and bins!

They are lovely Aggers and very adaptable, I remember seeing one in Surbiton a few years, ago, walking along a busy road cool as a cucumber! In broad daylight!

Poor fox - it always breaks my heart when I see a dead animal at the side of the road. Kaz, one consolation would be that if it were a vixen chances are the cubs would most likely be well weaned by now and hopefully be big enough to hunt and have a chance of surviving on their own.

We used to have 4 or so foxes in our area, but all bar one seem to have disappeared - oddly enough coinciding with someone who works in pest control moving into the area. Unfortunately we cannot prove anything but a few neighbours have fairly strong suspicions

Many years ago my husband had a friend over for a BBQ. The friend's wife and I were on holiday together with the children. After eating and, I should imagine, copious amounts of wine, the two of them fell asleep in the sunshine. When my husband woke up there were two fox cubs playing together, just feet away from him. He just sat there quietly for some time and watched them frolicking about. It must have been lovely. The friend slept through it all

I think we had some that roamed in a pack on my street and I often saw them on my way home from the pub. They really scared me though. They would follow you and definitely no scatter if you walked down the street towards them.

They looked more like dogs to me though and not at all like the cute things drawn in story books, I often wonder if they had crossed with dogs?? I've got photos of them somewhere. One use to sleep on the roof of the neighbours shed.
