I agree with Kate that the Death penalty should be reinstated.

Also, I think that life in prison should be so horrible that prisoners released would
vow never to go back there again.

(And 'do-gooders' should be gagged.)

You have brought tears to my eyes Kaz and Frank, I make such silly mistakes, forget everything I should remember, people's names the most simple things, full Dementia test taking place on the19th when my lovely doctor returns from her holiday, it's been a worrying time and a source of irritation with respect to my forgetfulness etc.xxxx

I don't know what you are worrying about, Kate. I'm the same. So are most of us mature specimens.

But we do have the value of years of experience, and first-hand knowledge of how things used to be
in the good old days. The world would be a much better place if they would only listen to us. As it is,
some of the young ones think they know better. Consequently the world is rushing towards ultimate
disaster. You - like me - should be glad that we have lived such a wonderful life.

Dear Aggers, thanks for your comments. Not a subject I should have raised here but the silly mistakes I have made etc have upset me. I will not mention any of this again, but I do thank Kaz Frank and yourself and others for your understanding.

Ah but....Aggers.

I am from a generation that has seen both sides.

I can recall the hardships and a 'make do and mend' attitude. Most of the shops on the parade were dealing in goods for life - baker, butcher, grocer, greengrocer, haberdasher, hardware. Food was real and although there was not a lot of it, it did taste like food. I also remember the days of no TV, only the radio. Sweets were a Friday evening treat when dad emptied his pockets.

However, I am from the first generation for a long while not to be conscripted to fight a major war, and that is thanks to NATO and the EU. I live in a world of plenty, maybe too much so, but I will never be 'poor' in its real sense. And my healthcare is guaranteed whenever I need it.

All in all I think that my generation has been through the best of times and maybe knowing hardships and riches guides my (our) thinking.

Well, at least 2 years after A50 is triggered we can have that discussion and if there is enough appetite for it, we can have a referendum and those who want to vote can have their say.

Staying in the EU meant that we could not even have the discussion because the Treaty of Rome forbids it.

I was about to say Suff that bringing back the death penalty would have been the quickest way of escaping the clutches of the EU. And no waiting around until 2019 either! Short sharp exit

We still had the death penalty during our EU time. However Blair revoked it in his first tenure. It was for Arson on her Majesties shipyards and for Treason. So those exceptions already exist. I'm sure we could make religious terrorism treason against the crown if we really tried...

Nobody will contemplate a short sharp exit now. It's the long drawn out slog for us now. Well after A50 is triggered, that is. I'm not sure that even bringing back the death penalty would have resulted in our eviction. Fines, maybe, but eviction? Just look at the wounded pride, fears and ranting going on right now for the answer to that. In the end the only people who were likely to pull the UK out of the EU were the British people and they did it.

Now we need to have a grown up debate about the death penalty and if the majority don't want it, then we won't have it... But, in the unlikely event we ever have that debate, the minority can't just go ranting on about how they don't like it, should the majority vote for it. They have to get on with it and live with it. Of course they could do something stupid like have a big demonstration and kill some people. Then the only worry they would have about it would be the experience end. Works for me...
