A Heart Warming Experience

Postby cruiser2 » 25 Aug 2016, 17:22

From another web site I Use
My wife, myself and daughter who is severely disabled were in Morrisons supermarket today having a snack in their cafe. An elderly man came over and spoke to my wife saying do you mind if I ask what is wrong with your daughter. My wife obligingly informed him that our daughter Julie was born with cerebral palsy and was unable to walk. He said the reason I asked is I have at home an electric wheelchair that needs a good home, would your daughter like to have it. By a strange coincidence although we where in a supermarket 30 miles from home the man in question lived just a few miles away from us. My wife said Julie would love an electric wheelchair and asked how much he wanted for it, his answer was nothing. Obviously at that point we had no idea of the value of the chair, but we agreed to call at his home on our way back. A shock however awaited us when we arrived and saw what at first glance appeared to be a new wheelchair. He explained that it was bought for is wife who had dies 15 months previously and had very little use. He told us that just before she died she told him to find a suitable person to give to and that our daughter fitted the criteria. On arriving home Julie wanted to try out her new set of wheels and soon racing around the house. However on looking at the instructions I find the cost of this wheelchair is over £2000, I'm now feeling extremely guilty. How do you thank someone for such generosity.

Cruiser do not worry about the double post.

What a truly heart-warming story.

If there is any way of replying to them regarding how to thank someone, I will suggest this.

Get him on their Christmas card list, invite him to share in Julie's achievements, invite him to birthdays and things. Keep him in contact and informed, but let him decide how much to take part. He is obviously one of a kind.

Yes a Christmas card and a photo of her enjoying the chair is ideal. I think a small gift to start with would be good, but I can't think of anything suitable offhand.

What a heartwarming tale. No doubt, the chap will find a lot of pleasure in seeing someone get a lot of joy from his and his wife's gift. There are still a lot of good people about. The fact that they were so far from home makes it seem as though she had been sought out.

Thank you for all your comments and WM for his help.
There were a lot of replies to the original article including one saying they should invite him for dinner at Christmas.

Cruiser, stories like this just warm my heart and reminds me that there really still are amazingly good people on this earth; what an incredibly generous, thoughtful and kind gift.

Sitting here with a big grin on my face :D
