It's a good job you turned the boiler on when you did Jen and found the fault
He could have been long gone and paid in full
Good . luck tomorrow

Things have been pretty hectic today. Mike the boiler man arrived just after 8am, We now have a lovely new boiler, hot water and heating, and a 7 year guarantee :D Our conversation with Steve was as difficult as we expected, but in the end we agreed on a settlement. We're £500 out of pocket, but as the final bill came to £1875 it could have been a lot worse.

Look on the bright side

A new boiler and 7 years guarentee for £500 isn't a bad price really.

Especially if your old boiler were to have gone bang anyhow in the near future of its own accord

Well it's a good result in the end. Although I don't think that paying £500 for a boiler change, when the boiler was perfectly OK and could have kept working fine for the next 30 years, was necessarily that good a deal.

But it could have been so much worse.

Glad you got it sorted Jen.

I, on the other hand, have been discussing boilers with Mrs S. We are intending to let rooms and, eventually, possibly the entire first house. As such I've insisted that we replace the wood burning boiler, which we can manage fine, with a pellet burning fan assisted hopper fed replacement. Something I can stack up with 7 days of pellets, has full integrated computer control and I can be sure won't be trashed by a guest who simply can't be bothered to listen.

The price is in the €5,000 to €8,000 range but I will be happy to pay it if I can get what I want.

Enjoy the comfort Jen.

I'm glad it's sorted Jen but I actually don't think you should have paid a penny it was not your fault
