This inclusivity thing has gone mad.

A government backed report by Sir John Parker says that all-white boardrooms should end by 2021 in FTSE 100 companies, and by 2024 in FTSE 250 companies. The aim is to get them more representative of their workforces, customers and suppliers.

Why stop at ethnicity? There are all sorts of groups in society and the same excuse could be used to support them - disabled, LGBT, tall, short, fat, thin. About 50% of the population is women, so should all boards be 50:50 men and women? And why not have children on the boards of toy manufacturers?

The whole thing is nonsense and hopefully the shareholders of these private companies will tell the government where to go.

If things need smashing up in boardrooms one is the glass ceiling so that women with the ability and the desire to move up can do so. The other is the old boy's network, which sees members holding multiple directorships, setting their salaries and only promoting their own.

I'm never so sure abut the glass ceiling WM. #1 daughter was acting director of finance for Lincolshire and Nottinghamshire health trust. They asked her to apply for the job, they begged here to apply for the job and she refused. Then, when the new director came in she moved out of his influence and took two steps down.

There was no glass ceiling there, she just didn't want the hassle. There are a LOT of women in business who feel the same. Usually because they are also carrying the bulk of the burden of the family as well as work.

If they want women in the boardroom, first they're going to have to foster the "house husband" scenario where he stays at home, looks after the children and gets an allowance from the main breadwinner.

That is a massive social change I won't see in my lifetime. So this whole thing is not going to fly is it.

I'm confused (as usual!) I didn't think there were any non-white boardrooms.
And what about non-black boardrooms?

Or is Sir John referring to the colour of the board room walls.

There is a Poppy Display at GCHQ, Cheltenham, this year, a "cascade" down a wall not unlike the Tower of London last year. BBC Points West did the interview. The designer / curator / whatever went out of his way to point out that the display included a number of black poppies to honour the colonial forces that had fought in the wars (fair enough) - and two rainbow-coloured poppies representing those troops that were LGBT !

I shan't comment ..... :D

These idiots have lost the plot.

The poppy was chosen by the Royal British Legion because it was the flower of the Flanders' killing fields. It was one of the first and only flowers to grow on the former battlefields, just as it had after the Napoleonic wars.

It did not pick and choose which of the fallen soldiers to grow upon, it grew on them all: Allies and Germans; rich or poor; black or white.

If only some of these nutters had the intelligence of a poppy seed ...
