Sorry to hear that you have had such a miserable time, Debih, but from a work POV I really do understand.

I helped a mate set up his lettings agency, computer wise, then worked there to help him get it going. The people I had to deal with; landlords, tenants, service people and him, were the 5h1ts. Nothing was ever right.

I really do hope the recept's job works out for you.

Hi Deb, I have worked in a GP surgery for 16 years (apart from a 2 year gap when in worked in a school). I love it. I started as a receptionist and then applied for the secretary job which I absolutely loved. I have worked at three surgeries, the first for 8 years and was heartbroken to leave but needed to be at home for Luke in the holidays. The second one I was only there a year as I just couldn't settle. I thought it would be like my previous surgery but obviously it wasn't, although I made a wonderful friend in my job share partner, so no regrets. So I had a break from the medical world and worked as an administrator in a school. I loved the kids and my colleagues (again one is another best friend still) but hated the head. More than anything though I detested the holidays. I like being able to have a day off when I want one not when I'm told and I got bored with 6 weeks off. So I wrote to all the surgeries in the area asking if the had a secretarial vacancy and one emailed me to say the administrator was retiring. The job wasn't exactly what I wanted but over time I have moulded it the doctors know I know my stuff and now I love it. I have been there nearly 5 years

You will have a great time, the patients will make you laugh, scream, fume and cry sometimes all on the same day

Thanks everyone. We've had a hideous few months and this horrible job really hasn't helped so I can't wait to be gone.

Life seems to be getting back in track - L seems much better and this job is the icing on the cake really.

Hopefully my confirmation letter and contract will arrive tomorrow so I can hand my notice in on Thursday. Im hoping they'll let me go earlier than the months notice.

I could walk Ossie although it's about 30 minutes each way but I won't as I will be taking the dog to my mums each day. She's company for my mum and I don't like leaving her home too long.

Debih, I feel for you. I walked into a job like that last year in Brussels. Bought the story and changed for quite a bit more money. Only to find I was working in a place where they thought they were god's gift but, in reality, they couldn't find their @ss with two hands and a flashlight.

As a result I was looking within a month of taking the job and left fairly unceremoniously.

I have first hand experience of a poor work life messing with your entire life balance and have decided that it's never going to happen to me again if I can avoid it. I'm normally Mr can do and Mr friendly. But when it's abused I drop back to my "Army" persona and people who are abusing the situation get the shock of their lives. Once I've had to do that, depending on who I had to do it to, it's time to go anyway.

All the best in the new job and hope that it re-balances your entire life and that things are great going forward.
