Another little piece of the truth slips out the door

I recall the Guardian trumpeting that Farage and Leave were totally wrong in claiming that the ECJ had overall jurisdiction over UK law and that the UK was a vassal state of the EU in terms of the laws it created.

Simply put, the statement was that ECJ is supreme court of the EU and all states are subject to it's rulings and none can overrule it. The Guardian denied this.

So when the Guardian reports, over the Dripa case (Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Act, or snoopers charter), the following:

The result, though immediately significant, could prove academic once the UK has withdrawn from the EU and the ECJ no longer has jurisdiction over the UK

Now my memory may be faulty but the Guardian was arguing that less than 8% of UK legislation was subject to the ECJ. In fact this statement says something else entirely.

Other press were more honest in saying that the ECJ had levels of jurisdiction over 100% of UK legislation, although it had only directly legislated over about 8% of it (to date).

I like to collect these little things so we don't forget. Everyone is railing about how the Leave campaign lied and told mistruths.

Personally, I believe, that misquoting the amount of money we will, or will not, be getting back from not paying the EU is "playing the game". However I, personally, believe that lying about who has overall jurisdiction over the laws of the land in the UK; is Treason.

A somewhat different position. Which is why I remember them. Money is money. Control over the state and the powers of the state is a matter of Nation and National Security.

Why get so worked up?

We are still members of the EU and are subject to its rules, but we are leaving, it is what we voted for. The ECJ/Dripa case is virtually meaningless.

When we leave all the claims of percentages of this and who controlled that become academic. We will be our own masters, able to do what we think is best for us. The EU will be in the past, out the door, archived.

I voted Remain, but I am now in the hard Brexit asap camp. If we are to leave the EU we need to put it behind us and move on. I have no idea how it will turn out, but we damned well have to make it work.

Was it not the ECJ who just ruled that compulsory vehicle insurance has to be extended to Segways, golf carts, mobility scooters, ride-on lawnmowers and fairground dodgems (the Vnuk judgement)? (As reported in the Times)

Sooner were out of all this bureaucratic morass, the better ....

No WM it's not the case itself. It is the casual way that the Guardian just contradicts itself without word or explanation. It is what I expect but I call it anyway.

The Guardian led the charge that the ECJ ONLY had jurisdiction over the UK on EU matters and that the UK was sovereign on it's own matters. Defence, security and policing are supposed to be UK core jurisdiction. Yet the ECJ just ruled on it and the Guardian plainly said that the ECJ is supreme when it comes to UK law. Which is a total 100% about face.

It needs to be called out and recorded because if the slimy wastrels ever do manage to push us to another referendum we need to remember who was lying about what.

Not that I think it will happen, but, still, be prepared as they say. Don't get me wrong I want the Leave lies tallied up too. Then if people are not sure they can tot up the lies and the importance of those lies and then try and work out who is selling what.

Just like the lie about reception centres in Kent. Yeah? Why? As soon as the pressure of the whole EU thing was removed the French, who had made all sorts of threats, simply moved them and did what they should have done years before.

It's lies like that we need to remember. And we need to remember who told them and what they were selling.

Apparently under World Trade Organisation rules, countries can impose tariffs of up to 10% on the goods of others?

But as sterling has devalued by 20% since Brexit, even if everyone taxes our goods at 10%, our exports to them will still be cheaper due to the 20% devaluation?
