Brexit

Sky news seems obsessed with the nation divided. I am fed up with the media highlighting divisions between leavers and remainers. The sooner Theresa May gets on with triggering our exit the better. All this negativity is bad for this country.

If she triggered it tomorrow there would be a cascade of legal challenges. Setting the end of March was the best thing she could have done because it allows all the legal challenges to be dealt with, laws to be passed and questions to be closed.

All of this is necessary because of those in the remain camp who still believe they can overturn the will of the people by using the government and legal bodies against the vote.

It will go away, but Sky, like a lot of the press, are against Brexit. Much as I don't like Murdoch and Fox, taking over Sky would be a balance in the broadcast media as they would be forced to get behind Brexit or find a new job.

I think that triggering of Brexit will come first though. Sadly.

Au contraire. The legal challenges are a direct result of decisions made by the UK's most inept PM in modern times. He made the referendum advisory, not legally binding. He did not trigger A50 on the 24th of June as promised.... and he then ran away. He left the door open for legal challenges, many of which are on points of law.

And let us stop making out that all Remainers are Remoaners and that all Leavers are squeaky clean. Had the result gone the other way there would have been legal challenges from the Leave side. One leading Leave campaigner, William Oliver Healey, even pre-empted the result with his petition to parliament when he thought that Leave would lose. He asked for the EU referendum to be re-run if the remain or leave vote was less than 60%, based a turnout of less than 75%.

As a Remainer I now strand firmly behind Brexit, but Sky is right - the nation is divided and some of the things being said are rather dangerous.

I'm getting fed up with all this arguing

I also think that something as important as Britex should be dealt with by our elected Parliament,
and the unelected legal profession should keep their noses out of it. The more I read about them
the more disgusted I get. It's time the Government stamped down on them. It's not as though they
are going a good job - half the time they are only perverting the course of justice.

WM, I did use the phrase "those in the remain camp who still believe they can overturn the will of the people". I certainly didn't lump everyone into that category and I certainly don't.

Yes there were Leavers who would have challenged a close vote. But it would have been relatively few and they would have had NO support from the press, or even most of the public.

The whole reason for Remoaners is because this vote has shaken up their sedate and predictable lives and now they are going to have to change. There are a Hell of a lot more people vitriolically opposing "any" change in their lives than their ever would have been opposing the fact that the majority of people voted to Remain. Also those Remoaners have the press and digital media, mainly, behind them. Making the whole situation worse.

However, had this community of Remoaners actually worked out just who voted to leave and who voted to remain, they might actually shut up and go away. Because the reality is that most Labour MP's are like a doe in a trucks headlights. Frozen with Fright and scared to death of doing anything which will rock the boat on Brexit. With over 100 Tories behind Brexit and the majority of the rest willing to go along with it, that leaves a few Labour MP's who support Remain, a few Fanatical Tories who support Remain, the whole of the SNP, a good chunk of Ireland and a pitifully few Lib Dems.

Simply put it's not enough to stop Brexit going through parliament.

So it's best to get the whole circus out of the system, let the judges pontificate only to be overruled by Parliament, who, by the way, create the Laws they judge on; then activate Bexit and get on with it.

Should be achievable by March. Most of Labour are currently so scared of bringing down the Government and losing their seats that they will do pretty much whatever is required on Brexit no matter what the Leadership says. Then again Corbyn was a committed Brexiter until he won the Leadership and was coerced into saying something else.

What Meds is saying has nothing to to with Labour, the Tories, government, Lib Dems or the media - straw men, all.

She is pointing out that Sky is obsessed with a country divided, and she is right. Sky is obsessed with how the people, ordinary people, are now divided, and it is right to be so.

A good place to start when looking for examples would be any article on the BBC website about Bexit and one where comments are allowed. The BBC, because of its support for Remain, has become a meeting house for Leavers to rant, and boy do they rant! What they are going to do to us Remainers 'come the day' would be bordering on hate speech if applied to a race, religion or gender. For them there is no such thing as a good Remainer. We are all tarred with the same brush and can foxtrot oscar, (after the immigrants have been removed) because if we stay they will make us suffer.

They are some of the lowest forms of life, and that is saying something.

Actually we are as divided as the press want to make us.

Sky and the rest are trying to tear us apart for their own gain.

It is a very small subset on either side who are tearing each other apart. Aided and abetted by the press and the media.

It's why I mainly ignore them.

I get the feeling that most people respect the result and just want to look to the future and make the most of our new found freedom.

Sky has just run a poll of the people confirming what other recent polls have also said, namely that the UK is divided, is more racist, that they are not sure about the economy, that they are not confident about their financial futures.

These are not polls about who the will or will not vote for, they are about peoples' feelings, and they are ignored at peril.

As for the remarks of Leavers, they are what these people actually and freely think and I am not going to allow them the excuse that the media has somehow pressured them, with arms up their backs, to behave like scum of the earth. That also goes for Remainer hot-heads.

We have been a divided country for a long time; Brexit has just shone a light on some of those divisions.
