Grrrrrrrrrr.......

Postby Osc » 01 Feb 2017, 16:40

We were leaving Lidl this morning, driving slowly to the exit - I needed to turn left and the car coming in needed to turn to his right to drive past me. I stopped to let the incoming car pass me because a car parked on my left was jutting out and the other car really cut the corner. He bl**dy well kept on coming and scraped the side of my back bumper   Then he kept on going and parked. By then Mr Osc was standing beside him tapping on the window. We know him, he lives literally across the street. Mr Osc says "Are you aware you hit our car?", he replies "Yes and you hit me too"  to which Mr Osc says (he assures me he didn't use the f word) "Well that would be difficult seeing as we had stopped." He came to look and muttered about it being easy to sand it down and repaint, but he was told firmly that it was going to be done properly and he would be paying. He told Mr Osc that he would be back home inside the hour and to go and talk to him then.

So I went over to try the good cop approach (which Mr Osc has never quite grasped ;) ) and told him I had phoned Ford service who said they would give me an estimate when I bring it in on Friday to repair my fog light cover that someone else broke  Rather surprisingly, he said to tell him how much it will cost and he will pay for it, so fingers crossed I don't have to get the bad cop on to it! Sooooooo annoying though

that really is very annoying. Fingers crossed he pays up without a quibble and it's sorted quickly and easily... so frustrating

It's so annoying, and I hope you don't lose out financially, Osc.

Over here, if you don't exchange details at the time, it's an offence not to report it to the police, even if it's in a public supermarket car-park.

You do have to watch it in car-parks - some people just drive into bays and leave their front-wheels at an angle; when they then drive out, if they don't watch it, they swing wide "too early" and can swipe a vehicle parked alongside.
This actually happened to me on Monday, lady in a Smartcar (of all things) clipped my rear wheel arch while she was reversing out of the next bay. I was actually standing next to her waiting to offload my shopping into my boot once she'd gone, so she couldn't exactly get away with it! :D Anyway, she did stop; I inspected both cars - very low speed collision, no visible damage done to either vehicle, so we left it at that .....

Actually WM, there was no damage to his car, just a mark that wiped off. I have his insurance details, but I suspect he will just pay it himself. No point in calling the police really, you could be waiting hours for them and I don't think they would be particularly bothered anyway.
