Money grabbing scumbags.

Postby Workingman » 20 Feb 2017, 16:18

My RAF pension is paid monthly meaning that it sometimes is due on a weekend. My car insurance is also monthly and it sometimes falls due on a weekend. This weekend the two collided in the strangest of ways.

The call for the insurance was made on Friday after the close of play, but the pension payment, also made after the close was not shown in my account - so no funds available. Now you might think that was no problem as the payment would be taken once the banks opened on Monday, today. How wrong you would be.

When the payment failed at 23:59:59 on Friday the system immediately fired off an email informing my of the fact and that a charge of £27 would be made when it was called for again on the 24th.

It has taken a while but I have finally been allowed to make a card payment and get the £27 charge cancelled, but it took a lot of perseverance to get past three staff members and speak to a manager who could help

that's just outrageous - amazing how quick the banks are willing to take our money but won't refund if they've made a mistake

Glad you got it sorted Frank although it's a situation that shouldn't have arisen in the first place.... the banks would have known the pension money was coming in so it should have shown up to them, but just not as available to you.

Makes me so incredibly mad when they do things like this

It was the speed in which it was done, nanoseconds, and the fact that it happened on a weekend when the banks are shut.

The other thing was that the call centre staff kept quoting Ts and Cs to me when I was doing my damnedest to make good the situation at the earliest opportunity.

Infuriating that, Frank. Like Ria said, surely your pension would've shown as a pending payment into your account.
Glad you got it sorted though eventually.

I too have fallen into this trap I had 3 payments taken out on the same day as my pension went in but all three preceeded the incoming payment all three were declined amd a charge made I complained bitterly and the outcome was the charges were taken off.

Then I had a £200 overdraft facility placed on the account to stop it happenning again, they have never since made a charge even when the payments come out the same day as funds go in, neither have I incurred O/D charges as the two amounts occurred on the same day so technically not overdrawn lol.

A win I think
