Music inside your head ...

Postby TheOstrich » 16 May 2017, 18:17

Do you ever wake up with a tune going round your brain that you just can't get rid of? :D It's happened to both Mrs O and myself this week ...

In my case, it's been "Shout, Shout" by Rocky Sharpe and the Replays, from 1982 (according to YouTube, where I've tracked it down!). The reason why this has stuck in the bird-brain is that it was the rock song pumped out by one of the huge carnival floats in last year's town procession. It keeps coming back to me!

In Mrs O's case, it's that JD Williams TV advert, you know, that one where all the ladies jump up and down and shout "AAARWOOOOO".

I always have music in my head, all the time :)
If one tune irritates then I concentrate on another until it's gone :)

And I hate that word earworm

I have that all the time. I get snatches of tunes we have been rehearsing in choir. I am never without an ear worm, even if I wake up in the night.

Earworm is not a good descriptor. For it to be an earworm the music would have to be in your ear and it is not, therefore earworm is nonsense. The music is in your head so a better descriptor than earworm would be headworm or my favourite; brainworm. :P :P :P

I can't think why but I have a very old one stuck in my brain ...

When the deep purple falls over sleeping garden walls. I can't think where on earth that came from!

Deep Purple - that's an old 1930s song.

My head is full of Thirties songs, and they keep popping up in my brain.

My father used to install hydraulic presses in firms that made gramophone records, and kept
bringing home samples of records made to rest the presses, so I was brought up on 1930's songs,
and my head is full of them.

Some of the best songs ever.
