Some holiday!!

Postby Gal » 30 Jun 2017, 14:42

Hi everyone sorry I haven't been here much recently - we have a couple of weeks off work so have been out and about with no laptop! :o

So Tom bought a new car on Saturday after selling the ancient Berlingo last THursday, fairly unexpectedly (too long a story!) LOL. We drove it up to our caravan on Sunday....I am poorly with a godawful cold, I have not had a voice since Saturday pm and have spent all of our time up there coughing/sneezing/croaking.....anyway, once up there, John had a look at the car and spotted there was no water (!!) we'd had a bit of a judder en route, also....cut a story short, Tom and John drove up to Berwick (the nearest Halfords open on a Sunday, 60 mile round trip) and John thought he'd sorted it, but to be on the safe side, he left us his car and they went back in our new one so he could look at it better at home.

Monday we had a lovely day, we went out in John's car and did a walk and all was well. Tuesday I had a shower and then whilst drying my hair the electric tripped. When we tried to contact Carol (site owner) she wasn't available so Tom got into the exterior electric box to reset it, and noticed our box was different to before, and to everyone else's. We saw Carol's son when we went for a walk and he said we shouldn't have been able to get into the box - they are aware we have tripped the switch a few times (it's so easily done!!) so they put a 'more secure' box on. Felt decidedly chastised by his attitude, he's only young and we were made to feel very naughty.

Jen and Kyle came to visit us on Wednesday.....they've never been to the caravan, or Alnmouth before, so we took them for a walk with Ruby (miniature dachshund) their doggo. Kyle had driven a little fast on entering the site, and as luck would have it, he was spotted by Carol so we got a £10 fine :( . Two black marks against caravan E9. Tom was annoyed and mentioned it several times, I actually don't think the kids will come back on account of this episode.

And then when we heard the forecast for the rest of the week, we decided to come home after they left. So packed the car up and set off about 7pm. Tom was driving and the car had no power once we left the site and were en route to the A1. Great. After a few minutes he switched the engine off for a bit and then started it again, and we were fine to get home!

His new car is still not right, despite spending money and time trying to put it right. Understandably he is not happy, can't really blame him although I do wish he'd not gone and bought the first car he looked at, and better yet that John had been with him, as he knows what to look for. The juddering was caused by wires (??) coming through one of the tyres.

Like I said, an interesting few days......

Aww Gal, what a shame that you had such a rough week. The site owners have got a bit of an attitude haven't they :?

Hope you're feeling better soon, I've had a change of plans today too due to a flippin' virus. I should be in Manchester shopping right about now but instead I'm on the sofa with a sore throat, hardly any voice and feeling exhausted.

Take care of yourself lovely, have a weekend of spoiling yourself xxx

Sorry you had such a rough time, Gal, especially the car problems.

I'm not very impressed by your caravan site owners. What "right" have they got to levy a fine? If I were Kyle, I'd have been furious; if something like that had happened to me, there's no way I would be revisiting that place.

I think he was more embarrassed tbh....Jen commented she wouldn't have been going that fast if she'd been driving. It's the 'right' of the site owner because it's 'in the rules', Ossie. But honestly they are being super pedantic, since the kids hadn't ever been on the site before and it's not like it was full of children that day, which is the main reason for the speed restrictions.

But I don't think K and J will come back anyway :(
