The EU response? The rest of the countries have to take more to make it easier for Italy....

However I don't know what Italy is bleating about, it has a GDP of $2tn and whilst in trouble, economically, is still viable. Greece, on the other hand, saw 500,000 come through it's borders and it's a basket case economically and a GDP in the $300bn area.

There is a complete air of unreality about this. The EU is promoting the "salvation" of these "poor migrants" (let's not call them refugees, they all pay for it). Whilst ignoring the fact that these are the "affluent" one's who can pay for the journey in order to make it "worth it" when they arrive. Often families put up the money on the expectation that they'll all get to come over after 18 months or so.

This is not desperation migration, this is not war migration. Those coming through Libya are there for nothing more than to make their lot better by making money in the EU they can't make at home.

Thus ensuring that nothing will ever change in their home country.

The EU actions here are disgusting. The deaths of those who try this lie firmly at the door of "open illegal migration" activities.

Those rescued just off the shore of Africa, in International waters, should be taken to the nearest available security. I.e. the North African shore. If the North African nation refuses to take them, then they should be sanctioned by the UN and the entire EU until they do. There should never, ever, be any question of sailing hundreds of miles to the EU to land these illegals.

The only way to stop this is to send back these economic migrants poorer than when they left. Which will stop the attempts. Letting them in, giving them citizenship and allowing them to go home to visit as rich men, will only put more lives in danger.

The EU utterly disgusts me in this.

The Telegraph stated yesterday that Italy has 40% youth unemployment, 65% in Calabria. Greece has 45% youth unemployment. These migrants are chancers wanting a better life, that's all.

It's like me turning up in Monte Carlo and wanting a villa and a yacht.

However, I keep coming back to this:- The EU should "do its best to undermine" the "homogeneity" of its member states, the UN's special representative for migration has said.

Because this is exactly what is happening. So maybe the migrant crisis is not wholly accidental.

To quote the Goldman Sachs man: "the future prosperity of many EU states depended on them becoming multicultural."

This is on the same lines as employers bleating that there is a skills shortage.

Saying the words does not make them true, we want a chapter and verse explanation of how. We need evidence that future prosperity is down to multiculturalism. We need the results of in-depth research backing up the claims, with real life examples. However, what we also require is the opposite view presented under the same rules.

Forget soundbites and opinions, give us the facts.

And until we have a definitive answer close the EU external border and turn the boats back.

There have been a number of "interferences" by United Nations organisations in recent weeks; for example, opposition to redevelopment in the Liverpool Docks area and the route of the Stonehenge bypass. Rather like the EU, the United Nations has morphed over the years to something that it was not set up for. It is now a pariah organisation which should be treated with the same contempt as the BBC.

With regard to these so-called charity rescue boats, I would like to see an investigation as to whether Save the Children, for one, is exceeding it's charitable remit.

It's becoming a bit clearer now. There are calls from within the EU to make immigration from Africa easier and legal. What they are after is a set number of immigrants from Africa to Europe, years after year, and everything will then be nice and orderly.

In their dreams. Weakness will only encourage more people to come. There is no political will to stop African migration into Europe (as yet, anyway). When every European city has a shanty town they might think differently.

Let us face facts. The people trying to come over need to be discouraged. To do that we need to be harsh but the EU can't be harsh to the underdog and, essentially, doesn't want to.

The EU countries have a problem. They have an ageing population and huge social programmes which must be funded by the workers, not the retiree's. So far the EU thinks it can just keep on letting immigrants come in and, hopefully, they'll go away when they've made enough and head home so a new bunch can come in. This is the EU thinking with European values, i.e. everyone will want to go home when they have made their bundle. This has been going on for decades in the EU.

Germany, on the other hand, knows different. Their Turkish community is slowly taking over parts of Germany and they feel powerless to stop them. The easier border controls are, the more are going to come, until Turkey is a better proposition, pay and benefits wise, than Germany.

With Turkey, Ergogan apart, it might have happened. Somalia? Eritrea? Sudan? Not a chance! There are more people in poverty in Africa than in the entire EU, by a factor of 2:1 and their populations are exploding. It doesn't matter how fast we take them, they have replaced what we take in six months in just one day.

Don't believe me? Have a look. Just sit and watch it for 30 seconds. Then remember that there are 86,400 seconds in a day.

The attitude of the EU is nonsense. These people need to return in rags with no mobile phones and half starved. That is the only way and I do mean the only way, to make them stop, take stock and work to make their own countries and people wealthier and with a higher living standard.

Taking illegal migrants because they _want_ a better life is just like pouring fuel on the fire.

Yasmin Alibhai Brown is the "columnist of the year" apparently. Here is her plea on behalf of migrants published last week in the I paper.

https://inews.co.uk/opinion/will-learn- ... en-threat/

In it she says that migrants leave their homes because they have to. One reason that they have to is overpopulation, which Ms Alibhai Brown (along with every other liberal journalist) never mentions. So I'll mention it again.

Country Population in millions 1976 Population in millions 2016
Nigeria 65, - 186
Guinea 4.3, 12.4
Cote d'Ivore 7, 23
Ghana 10, 23.7
Somalia 4 , 14
Niger 5.3, 20.6
Chad 4, 14.4
Ethiopia 33, 102
Sudan 12.5, 39.5
Zambia 5.1, 16.5
Malawi 5.4, 18

Typically a tripling of population in 40 years.

For comparison here are some European countries.

Austria 7.5, 8.7
Hungary 10.6, 9.8
Poland 34.3, 37.9
Czech Republic 10.1, 10.5
Slovakia 4.7, 5.4
Slovenia 1.8, 2
Germany 78, 82

There is no way that Europe can cope with the African population explosion. We have no automatic moral obligation to cater for the results of their idiocy, and even if we tried we couldn't do it. The rate of their population increase means that as fast as we helped one lot ashore, twice as many would just have been born back in Africa.

Instead of morality and nobility and empathy, liberals ought to be thinking of reality.

I notice that YAB, along with oh so many others of her ilk, plays the "migrants are a resource, not a burden" card with not one statistic to back it up. They are doing so because of the old adage that if something is said often enough, no matter how outrageous, it becomes a truth.

At the same time she conveniently forgets to mention the data from the Office for National Statistics showing that in the England and Wales in 2016 births to foreign-born mothers reached 28%. It conveniently forgets to mention, as does YAB, that those mothers make up less than 9% of the child-bearing population and that the vast majority of them are in the poorest percentile, meaning that they are absolutely reliant on benefits for the upkeep of their children.
