Thanks everyone. CV is now with 5 different customers so we'll see if anything comes of that. Monday I'll be chasing the swiss hard for a short term opportunity in Lausanne. One of my specialities and they want someone right _now_.

Manxie, got that one and have replied. Big thanks.

Car is in bits. Why PSA decided to mount the aircon pump on the sump I'll never know but that cost me 1 1/2 hours. I'm taking a break for juice and coffee before getting back to it. It's over 30 outside and a thunderstorm is due soon so it's hot and sticky. Even in the garage its 23C and sticky. Just as well I have 3 toolkits, two air powered tools, a compressor and a bench grinder for making special tools. Oh and a workshop just back of the garage.

Bad news so far is I now know where the oil has been going. Pulled off the turbo feed to the intercooler and it's swimming in oil. The oil seals on the turbo are shot. This is not good news on a diesel as they tend to run away and blow the engine eventually.... I'll be looking to see how easy that is to change whilst I'm in there as I'll probably put a new one in if all works out.

Back to the salt mine..

That's not good news about the pooling oil. But at least you found it now before it did go.
Fingers crossed for one of those jobs for you. May it have a start immediately after you finish the car.

well it was looking good, started with #'s 2 and 3 pistons all looking OK. #1, quite a lot of wear but not critical. Got to #4 and trying to undo the bolts the con rod was moving. Seriously not a good sign. After a lot of work I got the thing split and the shells out. The shells were half the size and had spread down the side of the con rod, trapping the piston.

The crank is pretty badly scored.

This engine is not going to be replaced so I'm going to have to ruminate on what I can do to polish the crank and re-fit the bearing...

Seriously not good news.

The jobs? A whole other issue.

For all those who wished me well on the job front I now have two offers from two different companies. I'll have to sort that one out, someone is going to be disappointed.

Mrs S' car? RIP, I'm stripping it of useful bits prior to scrapping it.

In the interim the dishwasher failed but that was just a blocked tube, only cost a few cuts and scrapes to get that sorted....
