Laydeeez an Gennlemun .....

.... my fulsome apologies for calling you that.

Apparently, it offends the LGBTXYZ lobby. To the extent that, after complaints, Transport for London are now instructing employees not to use such language when making station announcements.

Apparently, it's now got to be "Good morning, Everyone".

We truly are a nation of "insert your gender-neutral expletive here"

Ah yes, pustulent excretion of an arthropod?

Neuter of an unmarried neuter?

The Germans are slightly better. Das Mädchen anyone. But they are still going to be stuffed, they can use Das but Das thingy? They have a Fatherland, Men and Women are MEN and WOMEN, The French are totally copulated. They only have masculine and feminine.... What are they going to do? Their entire verb structure is based about it and it's the same for pretty much all of the Latin languages.

Only in English could we be so totally anal about it.

Not only that but the lobby doesn't even understand that it used to be Ladies and Gentlemen; commoners/workers/serfs not included. If we want to be stupid about it we can just say Ladies, Gentlemen and Others! Plenty of Women who are not Ladies out there and plenty of Men who are not Gentlemen to join the crowd..

It will make no difference to the *grunts* as they do not use 'good morning/evening', 'hello', 'please', thank you' or 'goodbye'.

As for the phrase being outdated, well TfL needs to drag itself into the 20th century never mind the 21st.

Some of us who were teaching adult classes 25 years or more ago were using 'everyone' or 'folks' or similar when addressing the group. It was not to be gender neutral, it was because Ladies and Gentlemen was seen as being a bit stuffy and remote.

Who cares about that. It's best to just ignore these people with such odd ideas.

Sadly we can't ignore them because they demand to be heard. So we should hear them and then give them the same consideration that we give any other 2.5% minority of the UK. Not the same as we give 50% of the voters...
