Another day, another disaster.... or two.

First the government lost a motion for it to publish its Brexit impact papers. It was a 'Humble Address' motion and the convention is that it is binding. It effectively brings the Queen into play in that it asks her to ask for the papers. Bercow has warned that to fail to do so could put ministers in contempt.

Following hotly on its heels is the news that Defence Secretary, Michael Fallon, has resigned due to leaks of his earlier inappropriate behaviour (see t'other thread) and personal conduct. There were things out in the open re Julia Hartley-Brewer and a knee touching episode, but she had laughed that off after threatening to smash his face in if he did it again. That implies that there is more stuff under the carpet.

What will tomorrow bring?

Hell of they start digging into MP's "conduct" the place will be like a ghost town. Not the most restrained of characters our reprobates of parliament.....

As for the motion? The PM can go to the queen and just ask her, in the best interests of the country and our negotiations with the EU, to bury the document until after we're done negotiating. She's not averse to such appeals and might not really think very much of the loyalty, to the country, of those who are trying to cause trouble for their own ends; rather than representing the people who voted for them.

We shall see.

I see that the Brexit Impact Papers will be published.

They will no doubt be heavily redacted. Brexit Minister David Davis says we will be "as open as we can" but told Hilary Benn he needed to be careful about "how we handle the confidentiality of the documentation we'll hand over".

I take that to mean that the studies are not glowing about the impact of Brexit and might in fact hold a lot of what was called "Project Fear" to have been the truth.

I wonder if that is why Brexiteers are arguing that it is sunny when it is persisting it down? It does not suit their agenda for us to have facts so we get the oft heard rant that is it Remoaners trying to scupper Brexit by any means.

I'm beginning to think that I don't care a bit whether we leave or stay in the E.U.
I voted to leave because I honestly thought it was the best option for the future
of our country. Of course, at my age it doesn't really matter to me whether we
stay or leave, it is the younger generation who will be most affected, but I have
a feeling that many of them can see no further than the possible effect on their
continental holidays. It is my opinion that a more pressing matter now is not the
E.U. but the distinct likelihood that life for humans on this planet will probably
prove to be impossible within the next few generations. People worldwide aught
to be addressing this matter and introducing a way of living that might hopefully
have some chance of curtailing the fateful day, although I don't think politicians
in any country will become suitably activated until it is far too late.

Sorry to be such a depressing prophet.
