Can you believe this man?

Postby Workingman » 05 Mar 2013, 18:19

Mr David Nicholson.

For a period of his life this person was in charge of Stafford Hospital where patients were dying through lack of care. Did he do anything about it? Not a chance, by his own admission he was so far removed from the coal face and working through intermediaries that he had no idea about what was going on. He now says that, with hindsight, he would have done things differently.

Sorry sunbeam, but we don't pay for people to manage with hindsight we pay for their foresight.

As for his being "grilled" by MPs, as reported by the BBC, what a joke. He was treated with kid gloves when compared to a real grilling. Not once was he truly pulled up and asked to explain. If his performance was woeful and an insult, and it was, the performance of the MPs was worse.

The fascinating thing is, both Labour and Conservatives are defending him, and the BBC has gone very easy on him.
Why is that?
They could have a field day with "Sir" David; not only for the Staffs hospital death rate et al, but also for his expenses.
Travelling to Birmingham for a conference when you can have a video conference instead?
Or, yes, his girlfriend did get promoted very quickly, didn't she?

Compare and contrast with the Andrew Mitchell 'plebgate' non-scandal, which was the lead story on peak time BBC news for three days running.

The man in charge should know what's going on at 'shop-floor' level.

The answer for chief executives is what is known as the GOYA method,

i.e. Get Off Your Arse (and see what's going on)

The man has proved that he was completely incompetent, and should be sacked forthwith.

Excellent link Aggers. V. funny, and so true. :D

Nicholson is only still in his job because Labour appointed him and the ConDems kept him on. They would lose face if they did the right thing and sacked him, and saving face is far more important than patient care.
