Yep but the optimists don't want 21st century living.
They are stuck between expecting to use 21st century technology, but drag everyone down to 18th century standards, whilst continuing to ramp up population to 10bn.
Complete bunch of idiots, but they get air time anyway. Basically because 10bn means 2.4bn more consumers.... Which means more money for the have's.
Looking at the population clock, world population was at 100m in 1000 AD. 650 years later it was 500m. 250 years after that it had risen to 1.6bn. 100 years later it had risen to 6bn. Just 7 years later and it is touching 7.6bn.
In 7 years the world population grew the same amount as the 900 year growth from 1000 to 1900.
To be honest, that should be utterly terrifying. In reality people just block it out as "normal" then others use that lethargy to claim it's "not a problem".
Fortunately (or not, depending on how you look at it), human populations tend to be self limiting. What does that mean? Eventually we'll get into a war over resources and then the world population will see a rather steep decline for a while.
Sadly, for those who thought we had actually risen above the animal kingdom..
There are 10 types of people in the world:
Those who understand Binary and those who do not.
