This is personal because I have had dealings with the throwback, Damian Green, so I am overjoyed to see the back of him, by whatever means possible.

Where I am angry is in the fact that these miscreants can break the rules, be involved in fraud or attempted fraud (expenses) and still leave with their Gold plated pensions and Golden goodbyes intact.

Any ordinary person, be they armed forces, police, council workers, checkout operators, would be told to 'take a walk' and not come back if they 'broke the code'. Yet those at the top have become the untouchables - certainly those in public service.

It appears that the higher up one is or the more heinous the crime the more likely they are to be moved sideways or even promoted.

When it comes to MPs, these are people who are in a position to make our laws, I am of the opinion that they should be forcefully deselected and take a chance with their former constituents, and that should be their only route back as an MP. They should certainly never, ever, be parachuted into a safe seat.

Yes, same with some bigwig on the Grenfell Tower housing management board, who won't resign as requested because he's ostensibly "committed to helping with the various enquiries", but in reality, it has been suggested, he's just protecting / maximising his gold-plated pension rights (The Times report today).

I appreciate you've got history with Green and are pleased with his demise, but I still believe those police officers have got a lot to answer for .....

To this list I would add the name of the right dishonourable Keith Vaz, MP.

Mr Vaz, lest we forget, was caught on videotape bragging about having unprotected sex with rent boys and offering to buy class A drugs for them. The inquiry into Vaz's conduct by the Parliamentary Standards people has so far taken eighteen months and has now been suspended because poor diddums Vaz isn't well. Eighteen months!

I would also like to point out the amount of coverage DOM Green's case has got compared to the virtual BBC blackout on the Vaz story.

There must be more perverts and wrong 'uns in Parliament than enough.

Sorry about the Damian Green thing, but I wanted a relevant introduction to the issue of those in high places being let off, Scott free, when us mere mortals would be pilloried, ostracised and, even worse, sent to Coventry.

I would have used Vaz, but the story had not broken, and as Cromwell says, it has been given a very low profile.

When it comes to the police I am not sure there is much that can be done on the Green case. It was not 'the police' who went after Green, it was two retired officers who, in their personal opinion, suspected that Green was 'getting away with it' and wanted to make it known that he was a liar. Their actions were prompted by the accusations made by Kate Maltby who claimed that Green made inappropriate sexual advances to her and that those claims were being ignored.
