I've just texted Ruth to see if Grace got a place at her first choice secondary school.
I can't get my head around the fact that she's old enough for that!!

Joe had his driving lesson in the snow and did well. He decided against going into college. He's only usually in for an hour on Thursdays and buses weren't keeping to timetable, were taking much longer than normal and all services in the Cannock and Stafford area were cancelled altogether later on.
Thankfully the college is closed tomorrow.

Tom's decided to come home tonight rather than tomorrow, John asked him to get an early train but he says he's getting the last one out of Birmingham at 11.20ish  Not sure if he's read the text I sent telling him that earlier trains are running around 45 minutes late so he's risking that one being cancelled

Well done Joe - driving in snowy conditions takes a lot of skill and patience.

As for the railways, on our line, the 17:20 Waterloo > Exeter tonight appears to have been started back at Basingstoke. On schedule, it should have left at 18:07. According to National Rail Enquiries, which I've been looking at out of idle interest, it actually left at 19:42. At the time of posting this, 21:04, it has not yet reached its first port of call, Overton (Hampshire). The journey time from Basingstoke to Overton is normally 8 minutes! :?

 I saw those poor people stuck on a train on the news this morning :(

I met John after he'd finished work and we had a mad rush around Aldi and Asda in town, we're well stocked up now. It wasn't bad when we met up though but conditions were horrendous by the time we were heading home 30 minutes later. Even the town centre roads were treacherous and John was thinking he'd have to park elsewhere in the village as he didn't think he'd make it up our hill but he did.

All buses have now been cancelled again and the A34 is again blocked. Tom's planning on heading back to Wolverhampton after his shift tonight so I'm keeping an eye on the trains for him (he has to get one into New St and then get another for Wolvo). Joe's in work and there's no way we can pick him up so we'll walk to meet him to give him a bit of company. He's just texted and said it looks like they'll be closing early.

Saundra, I always used to light candles at our old house. We had two fireplaces in the living room, one with a living flame gas fire and the other was a disused open fireplace so I had candles in that and it was really lovely, gave the illusion of a burning fire.
I hadn't bothered with them since moving here but bought a Gingerbread scented jar candle from Home Bargains before Christmas, about the same size as a large Yankee candle but just £2.99, and it was lovely and now I'm back to lighting candles every night :D
