Mum texted me to say their neighbours, in their 60's and three houses away, knocked on their door to see if mum and dad needed anything. How kind of them...loving all the help that is around at times like these.

My folks live in central Scotland and the snow is roughly 2 foot deep!

On a different note...our rain stopped at noon and has been windy but beautifully sunny since.

Just seen some video/photo of our sea front and harbour to be honest it's quite frightening the force of the wind it's blowing the big wheel round and the sea is so high waves going over houses and shops ugh

Afternoon all, it's very stormy here and bitterly cold. The waves were astonishing, at full tide they were higher than the pier and water was pouring over. The country is now on shutdown awaiting Emma's arrival. I went to the local shop this morning, it was like Christmas with a great atmosphere  and Christmas FM came back for one day :D When I got back, SIL arrived with Kellie and we suggested she stay for a while. I went out for a little while to try and get some photographs of the sea but it was so windy that I could hardly hold my phone still. We had a nice couple of hours with Kellie, we all built a snowman on our terrace, beautiful pristine snow about 4 inches deep. She has gone home now and we are settling down now waiting for the full storm.

We are so so glad we cancelled our trip, our flight home tomorrow has been cancelled and we would have been rightly stuck. Regardless of what refunds we may or may not get, it is only money and we all feel relieved that we are home in our own houses.

Osc I bet you're glad you didn't go - sometimes it just works out for the best doesn't it?

Well - what a day!! I wasn't going to attempt to get to my Thursday Aquafit as I could see people struggling to get off the estate, and we're at the bottom of a bank with speed bumps all the way up, so I messaged boss to say I could open the shop (Jan couldn't get to work yesterday and didn't think she'd make it today - but she did!) So I was there for nothing really, but we spent the morning together, taking several cancellations and rebooking etc, so pretty quiet, then we went for lunch and then I came home.

The snow is pretty deep up here but the worst is the strength of the winds - they howl through the windows (I think I may have to invest in new ones - my thermostat in the hall is set to 19 degrees but the hall is always colder than the rest of the house, yesterday it just couldn't climb as high as that, stuck at 18 - but the living room was toasty as I had the curtains drawn all evening. I was sent home from work at 5 yesterday, mainly because everyone else has a drive to work and they'd mostly left at 4, think boss took pity on me! He told everyone to leave at 3 today!! It's still horrible out though :( How long will it last??? Sick of it now, March???? Yeah right. Take care all of you on high watch, I think ours is menat to end at 6pm tonight but may be extended. I posted some pics on FB of our garden under several inches of snow.....yuk.

I have a combi boiler too - I don't think I have needed to do anything like that before, like Ria I wouldn't know how to! :o

Stay safe everyone xxx

Great to hear that many folk are rallying round helping out neighbours, friends and strangers. And well done for making the effort, Gal!

We are on the fringes of the "red warning" area, probably 30 miles or so from the eastern edge of it. My mate over in Bridport reports that the conditions getting very bad down there. It's been snowing all afternoon here and gusting around - we've probably got a couple of inches by now but 3-4 inches in the drifts, with no let up yet. We can see there's still traffic moving on the road down into town, though. A second band of snow is forecast for sometime tomorrow which might affect us more directly.

A night to wrap up warn - stay safe, all ...
