Peeled and chopped the onions for tonight's mince beef 'n onion stew (with added peas, a pepper and an aubergine - the latter two virtually the last remaining items in the supermarket yesterday morning) and made to put the onion skins in the indoor food recycling tub. The food bag was pretty full, so volunteered to take it outside to the little shed where we keep the main food recycling bucket.

"You can't go out like that," says Mrs O.
"But it's only three steps to the shed ..." replies Ossie
"Well put something on your feet, then!"

Suitably clad in no socks but sneakers, I opened the back door, and uttering the immortal words "I may be some time ...", I stepped outside without looking .......... and plunged straight into a 12 inch snowdrift that had piled up overnight in our back passage!

Now I can't stop sneezing!

Just beyond our back garden is a natural grassy bowl which acts as an attenuation tank, a flood prevention measure should the local river ever overflow. Today, we can see from our window there's at least 30 adults and children with sledges all sliding down its slopes and clambering up again. The littlies (and a couple of excitable spaniels) are all loving it! :D

Afternoon all, we did not get too much snow here overnight, although they did further up the hill. It is extremely windy, I went up the hill across from our house this morning to take photos of the sea - struggled to get up there, had to tie my hat down using my scarf, and it was not easy to keep the camera steady. I then went up to the shops, all closed except one, although the butchers and little supermarket were opening this afternoon. Got some veg for soup and a few other bits. Now it is sleeting, blowing sideways in the gale force wind. I've made a batch of soup, Mr Osc has made some rock buns, and now we are settling down to watch a film.

Miss Osc lives almost at the end of a very steep road that has quite a sharp right hand turn just before her house. Over the years, cars have not made the bend and therefore a barrier was put up. Last night, a car hit the barrier, went across the footpath and ended up in some bushes above a lower little path - two doors up  Don't know if the photo will upload, but Miss Osc's house is the cream wall with the brown gate. No sympathy for the driver, there was no reason to come down that road, when there was a red alert, everyone had been told to stay off the roads, and there were other ways he could have gone. The driver wasn't hurt, but it annoys me so much when the emergency services have to put themselves at risk because idiots think nothing will happen to them

:o That's a bit too close for comfort, Osc.
Does Miss Osc also live in your town? - I remember there were some very steep hills there down to the quay.

I've just received an email from British Gas with generic advice about the adverse weather which ends with "we are all terribly busy and doing the best we can, so please do not reply to this email" ! :D

Tonight's mince beef 'n onions was cancelled.
Mrs O realised around 4:30 that she'd accidently de-frozen a packet of sausages ...... leading to Ossie starting to carol "Should have gone to Specsavers!" :geek:

Blimey Ossie, the last thing you need is a snow drift in your back passage

Goodness Osc! Some people haven't the sense they were born with have they! :x

Yes Ossie, she also lives here, walking distance from our house but a bit further uphill.
