Peeled and chopped the onions for tonight's mince beef 'n onion stew (with added peas, a pepper and an aubergine - the latter two virtually the last remaining items in the supermarket yesterday morning) and made to put the onion skins in the indoor food recycling tub. The food bag was pretty full, so volunteered to take it outside to the little shed where we keep the main food recycling bucket.
"You can't go out like that," says Mrs O.
"But it's only three steps to the shed ..." replies Ossie
"Well put something on your feet, then!"
Suitably clad in no socks but sneakers, I opened the back door, and uttering the immortal words "I may be some time ...", I stepped outside without looking .......... and plunged straight into a 12 inch snowdrift that had piled up overnight in our back passage!
Now I can't stop sneezing!
Just beyond our back garden is a natural grassy bowl which acts as an attenuation tank, a flood prevention measure should the local river ever overflow. Today, we can see from our window there's at least 30 adults and children with sledges all sliding down its slopes and clambering up again. The littlies (and a couple of excitable spaniels) are all loving it!
