Ryanair HELP please.

Postby Workingman » 09 Mar 2018, 13:53

Do any of you have knowledge of baggage allowances, especially when flights are booked through a third party such as Expedia or Kayak?

I am going to Portugal in a few weeks, to our friends Jan and Grumps, and have got myself tied up in knots by going to the Ryanair website. It makes Double-Dutch look sensible.

I hate taking anything but me and a laptop sized bag into the cabin. My suitcase always gets checked in and goes in the hold because it is bigger, and heavier, than cabin baggage allowance and this is where my problem lies.

Is that one bag included in the ticket price or is it to be paid for as an extra? And what is a priority reservation when it is about and how does its baggage allowance differ?

If anyone uses Ryanair regularly or has any knowledge of baggage allowances - in simple language please - could they help me out? I will be most appreciative. Thanks in advance.

They've recently changed their allowances I think.

Just looking and how I understand it is that, if you don't pay Priority, you can now only take a 'small' (35x20x20cm) bag as carry on. Your other bag if you have one, 10kg weight allowance and 55x40x40cm, will be put in the hold free of charge. If you pay Priority then you can take that bag into the cabin with you along with your small bag.

Oh, and I know that when we've flown with them before Priority means that you board first and then have first dibs at fitting large bags into the overhead lockers.
The staff would then, I suppose, have an idea of how much space was left and come along the queue of those of us too tight to pay for this and take any large cabin bags/cases which they knew they didn't have locker space for and put them in the hold, but that was done free of charge.

Does the third party not have details of what is covered in the price they offer? I'm wondering why you would not book direct on the Ryanair site, as it is all set out quite clearly. Jo is right, if you pay for Priority boarding, you can bring on board a 10kg bag plus a small one. That seems the easiest choice to me, if you are happy to go with carry on baggage only.

And don't worry about heavy stuff like shampoo, shower gel, although you'll have to bring shaving stuff.

Frank, as far as I am aware Ryanair gives you nothing for free..... you now have to pay for every single bag. Looking at the web

At time of booking or anything up to two hours prior to departure you can 'purchase' up to 3 checked in bags each weighing no more than 20kg

If you are purchasing "Priority & 2 cabin bags" or a Plus/Flexi ticket you can carry the following on-board:
One small bag e.g. handbag, laptop bag etc. not exceeding 35cm x 20cm x 20cm
One cabin bag, not exceeding 55cm x 40cm x 20cm in size and 10kg in weight.

If you have not purchased "Priority & 2 cabin bags" or a Plus/Flexi ticket you can carry the following on-board:
1 small bag on board (35cm x 20cm x 20cm)
If a second cabin bag (55cm x 40cm x 20cm) is brought to the gate, it will be put in the aircraft hold free of charge. The Regulations on Cabin Baggage apply.

and that will be regardless of who you buy the ticket through

I did 10 days in California with just a small suitcase, less than 10kg, and I'll do the same for New York. Actually I've done that for New York before too.

However, Tom's just come home for one night and has a bigger case with him than I use for a holiday

Osc, I was only looking at headline prices to compare different times / airports.

The problem I have is that I do not have a cabin bag, never owned one. I have a small suitcase but it is larger than allowed by a cabin sizer, I have tried it. The weight of the bag and its contents is not a problem... all I wanted to know is whether it can go straight in the hold as part of the ticket price.

Thanks to all your tips I found this, it expands on what Ria posted:

Non-Priority
If you have not purchased Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, you are only permitted to bring 1 small bag on board. Your second 10kg bag will be tagged at the gate and put into the hold free of charge.

Your small bag (e.g. handbag, laptop etc.) must not exceed 35x20x20cm and should easily fit under the seat in front of you.

Your second 10kg bag must be 55x40x20cm in size and must fit into the sizers at the gate before being tagged and put into the hold free of charge.

Failure to comply will result in a charge of £50 per item at the departure gate and may also lead to delays for all passengers on board.

My second 10kg bag is bigger than the 55x40x20cm size so it looks as though that would cost me an extra £50 each way... I feel a shopping trip for luggage coming on.
