Jan, it's not easy in their line of work. It's quite specialised and there aren't many companies who do this kind of thing now so jobs are rare. He could potentially do contract work on a self employed basis but then he wouldn't have a steady income and could go for months without any work.

Tom really has lost the plot though. I've worked for him myself on occasions when the secretary has been off and he's a poor manager and is getting worse. John said last week that, to use a football phrase, he's lost the dressing room. One fella's been in India since July 2015 (!!) and recently returned to the UK as his part in the job over there is now finished. He had his appraisal with Tom and was told that he lacked commitment - he'd put his life on hold for two and a half years, lived in a hotel in a grotty part of the world and returned back to be told that!

I keep spotting something on the blind in our living room, forgetting that Joe's watch is hanging on there to catch some daylight.
It was losing time. It's a quite expensive one which he'd saved and saved for so is precious to him and he's been asking for a few weeks if we'd take it to get a new battery fitted so we finally got around to it and popped it into a jeweller's. They told us how much and took it into the back of the shop to dismantle it and fit the new battery.
A minute or so later the man returned and told us that it didn't need a new battery, because it's solar powered
It just needed some daylight.
