Stupid students...

or stupid educationalists?

News is out that some YouTube "stars" are advertising essay writing sites for students to hire in an author of "their" own work. The authorities, lecturers and politicians are concerned about this, and rightly so. To that end the are attacking YouTube, the advertisers and the sites producing the work, again, rightly so, and some sellers and authoring sites have been shut down, but where they are failing is with the buyers.

Nobody is telling the students one simple truth - their real own work is easily detected.

Every teacher, lecturer, trainer, parent and reader knows that every writer has a particular style. They use the same words, phrases, grammar and sentence structure all the time.

Teachers and lecturers need to hammer home this simple fact with a warning to students that fake work will get a U grade. That should stop the practice dead. It would mean that teachers and lecturers would have to be on the ball and doing their jobs properly, but that is a different debate.

I saw that on the news Frank. I thought the people "Giving a big shout out to our sponsors..." came across as being morons, but that's probably just me getting old.

You'd have to be a bit gullible, or lazy, or optimistic or desperate to part with money for an essay writing service.
