Another medical problem for humanity.

We already know about drug resistance from some viruses and bacteria, well now we learn that this is also the case with fungi.

When I first heard about this I thought of Athlete's foot, Thrush and nail infections and then went on to think that they were not killers. I then got to thinking of baker's and brewer's yeasts and could not see a problem. Fungi are all around us and in every breathe we take and are harmless, well apart from poisonous mushrooms and toadstools and we know to avoid them.

Then came this and now I do worry. Some forms of Candida are mutating so rapidly that they have become resistant to all drugs as well as some decontamination methods. The mortality rate is over 50% with some strains.

In the past few decades nature has thrown up some deadly organisms - Ebola, SARS, MRSA and now Candia auris - and each new one seems to be more deadly than the last. We are being attacked on all fronts and we are partly to blame due to our overuse of "anti" drugs, lotions and potions.

It started with Antibiotics but was bound to spread.

There appears to be no concept of letting things try and heal themselves, especially viruses which have no known cure outside of a vaccine.

One of the more worrying things I have seen recently is the tendency for doctors to under prescribe to keep the costs down. Which raises the risks of treatment resistance exponentially.

I must admit, worrying about Aliens coming from space and taking us over and wiping us out is a very long shot. Especially as we are hell bent on doing it to ourselves.
