Done, although I must confess I don't have a fat lot of interest in the World Cup or in the England team, preferring to watch the "grass-roots" game …… :P

Absolutely me too Ossie. I love watching and following Ipswich but have no interest in premiership football and even less in international games.

I cannot understand all the way-out excitement has been shown just because England won a game of football.

We didn't go that mad when we won World War 2.

I can understand, me and Joe are regulars at the football. We're passionate about the team we support and celebrate with the best of them when a goal is scored or the game is won. It's one hell of a rush when the ball hits the back of the opponents' net. And whenever we win something big and there's a parade afterwards then we go to those too.

Just can't be doing with the England team and the hype that surrounds them.

I can fully understand and identify with that, Jo, and it's great that your Joe also has the interest (even if it is ManU :P ).

As a 15yo, I started supporting and attending Birmingham City games, home and later away. The advent of the hooligan period in the early 1970's, especially after incidents I witnessed at St. Andrews, Norwich and Leeds was the catylst that turned me into a non-league fan who didn't really support any set team, and that's still the case.

The only team that I can say I have actively had a spell supporting, home and away, in the last 40 years was (weirdly, but then that's me! ) Pontypridd RFC, in the early 1990's. This was in their hey-day when for a short spell they became one of the top sides in Welsh rugby. Living at the time in Somerset, I used to commute over the bridge and up the valley to Sardis Road in around 2 1/2 hours, the worst stretch being the final mile into Pontypridd itself! They were an extremely friendly club - Master O had a huge welcome when he attended his first rugby game there at the age of about 7 - and I finished up a "Vice President" (which is rugby-speak for season ticket holder :D ), wearing the tie with pride! I saw the Ginger Monster (Neil Jenkins) make his debut as a callow 18 yo, but the undoubted highlight was attending the SWALEC Welsh Cup Final in the Old Cardiff Arms Park (Ponty lost to Swansea). It was an overwhelming experience to put it mildly, one I'll not forget!

Jo, if I lived nearer to Ipswich I’d have a season ticket and go as often as I could. Sadly I live to far away and unfortunately the game I would be going to next season is Aug 18th and my football buddy is still working in Dorset,so I’m gutted.

I’ve loved the games I’ve gone to and I will go to Villa Park when they play Ipswich and sit on my hands again.

I completely understand what you mean about England. Everyone tells me how miserable I am and I should get behind the team. How even though they don’t like football they’ll be watching because “it’s coming home”. My answer to that is be careful what you wish for.........
