The rise of the far right.

Postby Workingman » 13 Mar 2013, 18:43

Home Office minister, James Brokenshire, has come out and condemned the rise of the far right and although he does not name the BNP he does name the EDL as being equal to terrorists. "We utterly condemn the offensive, anti-Muslim messages they promote."

We might condemn the right, but those of us outside the Westminster bubble also ask WHY it has become more popular. We recognise what the politicians did to alienate the population of the country. Many of us have become victims of various anti-British policies from governments of all colours down the decades. We sort of understand the "Why?".

Maybe this former bwanker and MP for a leafy suburbs constituency should have a good look at the part he has played in closing down perfectly feasible companies to make money for his speculator friends. And let us not forget his leading role in the closure of the UK's Forensic Science Service, with the loss of over 2000 highly skilled scientific jobs. It might give him a clue as to why the far right is rising.

In poor economic times the far right and the far left tend to do better than the mainstream parties.

When things are going well nobody wants to hear about extreme measures or hard work to get things done (just look at climate change).

This is natural and all the harsh words in the world will not hinder it. In fact they may help it.

We need a new name for MP's. Monstrous Pillock comes to mind....

I don't know what to call them without sounding obscene.

After over eighty years in this country, I reckon I have witnessed more changes in my life than anyone before in history.
The tremendous developments in technology have brought some advantages but many disadvantages, too. What I find
the most disturbing is the change in human nature that I believe is the result of affluence - namely widespread,
insatiable greed.

I feel sorry for children today. Their future doesn't look very bright to me.

Mr Brokenrecord is funny, though he isn't intending to be.
He blames the EDL et al for taking advantage of the public anger at Muslim grooming gangs.
Well, yes. So they are what, taking advantage of the truth?
A truth which was kept supressed for years until the scale of the problem became too big to supress any more?
The only thing that surprises me about people like the EDL is that there aren't more of them.

Things aren't bad enough (yet), for that to happen.

When this government loses the next election and Labour gets back in with the Lib Dems, that term should break the country enough that the medicine will drive truly scary reform....

Plus ca Change.

There is an undercurrent of disaffection in the country, and I wouldn't necessarily define it as being the disaffection of the far right. If anything it is against the right wing, full stop. However, it is nor for the left wing, who are also implicated with the general misery.

The disaffection and anger is with everything. Politicians of all parties are not trusted. Politics is not trusted. The media are not trusted. Business is not trusted. Financial institutions are not trusted.

One day the lid will blow. That day might not be far off.

I do worry about that. Because we are in a hole financially and I can't see how we can get out. We owe so much money as a country, but yet the economy has to have "growth" apparently. How to we get "Growth"? We can get artificial growth by importing five million people, concreting over the countryside and then pointing at some meaningless figures and shouting "Look! Growth!" - but people won't be any better off, and if the five million people coming in are costing the government money, then the government will be worse off.

Ed Balls worries me. He is a bumptious character with immense, boundless, limitless self confidence.
Unfortunately on the evidence his actual ability is very limited indeed. The idea of this man becoming Chancellor makes me want to put my head in my hands.

Oh well, time will tell I suppose.

That is oh so true. There is no "connect" between politicians and the people, financial institutions and large companies are merely looked on as "the great exploiters", and the media act the role of medieval rabble rousers. The ""peasants - you and I, ordinary people - are trodden down and under oppression, both real and imagined.

It is as toxic today as times in the Middle Ages.

The plain truth is
that you can't trust anyone
in Government
or industry
today.
