I read that yesterday and felt really angry with the headline. Stupid "newspaper".

I didn't read the comments - I can already imagine what they are!!!

The son could have been my brother - autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and physical disability, wheelchair - but mum, dad, my sister and I had to live that other life. The alternative(s) available to this mum and her family didn't exist. That is why I understand what she is saying and what she has done. There were times...........

Unfortunately, and I have to be very careful here, she does not put her case very well. It comes across as a "me, me, me" piece, imo.

Frank yes it was, I was thinking more of the article title! The mother hasn't 'given up' her son, she's found a place for him where he is happy and getting help and she can now give some attention to the rest of her family as well. Nobody has given anybody up - typical over-emotive DM slant IMO
This woman has made a brave decision, the lad is in a fantastic school where they are helping him to reach his full potential, he loves it there and they do visit!

Ooja, he is in a special school, where is getting the education and help he needs. She did not 'give him up' he comes home for the holidays and they visit him. As Kaz says flipping typical Wail

We looked at residential schooling for Luke, but it didn't feel right at the time. But I suppose the Wail would have a field day with us, as we didn't even have other children to consider when he moved to residential living at 18. No one knows what it is like to be hurt daily by your own child, to be scared to go anywhere in case they kick off, unless as you say they have been there
