We were, of course, assured that this was not going to happen and that the NS gas fields were going to run out in 10 years and that our energy security would be reliant on Russia unless we engaged in extensive Fracking...

Just another lie to add to the pile created during the referendum.

Still, it is good for the UK as a whole post Brexit...

Nobody knows, that is why they are prospecting.

However, the area east of Shetland does seem to be a promising place to be looking.

No that is not the point. We were told CATEGORICALLY that the ENTIRE area had been surveyed and that it was a matter of diminishing returns with EXTENSIVE expense required to retrieve the additional resources.

Exactly the opposite of the situation we see today.

Hence some very disgruntled Scottish Nationalists.

Be very glad that at least 50% of Nationalists want even less to do with the EU than they want to do with the UK.

I can't understand just what is going on.
It is obvious that us humans are rapidly using up the Earth's resources, but no-one seems to realise that we should be doing something about it.
Instead all we can think about is more cars, more planes, more ships, etc., etc. - everything that will help to exhaust the Earth's resources and,
in the process, help to permanently contaminate the environment. God help future generations.

I assume because during the referendum, the "No" campaign majored a fair old bit on the fact there was no (or very little) oil / natural resources left out there, so financially Scotland would go to hell in a handcart very rapidly if they did vote to separate, as the rest of the UK would be under no obligation to continue subsidising them. The Scot Nats were going to claim those dwindling resources in their territorial waters as their own, but it was being argued that they'd not even be allowed to do that, IIRC.

I'm not privy to all the arguments and mutterings in the halls of the Clans , but presumably it was a bit of a game-changer.

A bit like Project Fear and Brexit, in a way, although the majority of EU referendum voters ignored the prophets of doom. And nothing so far has justified all that fearmongering, anyway, (and with my rose-tinted glasses on, hopefully nothing will).

Not to worry too much, Aggers, if that nice Mr. Corbyn gets in, judging by today's speech, you'll have a compulsory solar panel on your roof, and probably a windmill on your balcony!

Our Solar Thermal system (a single panel) which provides hot water probably saves us about £100 or so a year off the gas bill, as long as we get decent sunshine. I shaln't tell you what it cost to install, though!

No this has nothing to do with Brexit except in the views of Scottish independence voters. The only link to Brexit is that those who don't want to lose Scotland to another independence referendum can thank god for Brexit. Because if the UK were still in the EU, right now, those voters would be tearing the doors of Holyrood down to get a second independence referendum and holding up this "discovery" as prima facie evidence that the No camp lied their asses off.

This is Scottish local politics on which Brexit is having a large impact.

Brexit, for Sturgeon, is a total disaster in more ways than one.
