What plans do you all have for Christmas and New Year?

Postby Ally » 22 Dec 2018, 09:29

We've got Jacob and Conor coming over Christmas Eve morning. :D :D

We're going out for lunch and a few beers and as is the custom in Spain, will have dinner together around 10pm. Was going to prepare a Chinese feast for us but have just made an executive decision to have said feast delivered to us instead. The boys will go out after midnight to meet up with friends. We'll go to bed.

Christmas morning will be a glass of bucks fizz and the 4 of us opening our presents. ;)

The boys will then drive back to Malaga to spend Christmas with their respective girlfriends and families whilst Don and I head off to spend 3 days in Nerja. 8-) 8-)

New Years Eve Don and I are flying to the UK to spend 4 days with Craig and Leilani in Nottingham. It'll be our first time in the UK at NY since 2002. I'm so looking forward to it. :x

I'm definitely feeling very festive. :Hi: :Hi:

I've just realised I won't be doing any cooking for the next 2 weeks or so.

If the cold doesn't clear up, not a lot

Christmas Eve is popping into Ourique to collect the turkey and we've arranged to meet Mitchell at the bar in the late afternoon, the weather is so lovely at the moment, we can sit outside :D :D We normally have curry for dinner, but will see what I feel like.

Christmas Day will - probably - be just us two. We don't do presents any more but will try and skype with a few friends and family, depending on the signal.

Turkey in the afternoon.

The day after is a normal working day and we'll be doing a bbq in the afternoon.

That all sounds lovely Ally :D :D

Jan, I hope you feel better by the big day, it's no fun being ill at Christmas :? XXX

I have Mick and B here, of course, and Chris is coming for the day :D :D My sister and hubby are coming for the weekend between Christmas and New Year, and possibly Phillip and Hannah and Armand (Hannah's OH) as well :D They sleep at the Ibis round the corner, but we otherwise spend all the weekend together. Really looking forward to seeing them :) :D :Hi: NYE itself will be quiet, just the three of us at home.

Harry is staying with his dad this year, they are going to my ex's stepmum, along with his brothers and sister, in her large house - one last big Christmas before she moves in the NY. We had some lovely Christmases there when B and H were tiny.

It will be round to my sister's for Christmas eve and our family's traditional Christmas dinner.

On the day I am acting as Uncle Babysitter for about five toddlers while the grown ups go for their rip-off meal - three times the price for the same meal any weekend, but you get red napkins a cracker and glitter and tinsel on the table.Image

Boxing day is the big buffet - to get rid of the leftovers.Image

Next door is setting up a gazebo thingy for New Year's eve. It is for a bring-your-own bash and all the neighbours are invited. Forecast is for cold and dry weather so it wil be a wrap up warm gig.

We are having a relatively quiet Christmas, although we are going to a concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Christmas Eve.

Later in the week we are going to our annual family Christmas get-together.

Otherwise it will be a relatively quiet, but nevertheless happy, occasion.

Master O and DiL stayed last weekend for a few days; they are working on shift over Christmas.

We have in the past visited SiL on Boxing Day but it seems she's got visitors staying, and then going down to Devon to niece's on Boxing Day itself.

Footie fixtures are rubbish so no respite for Ossie there! :( As are the telly offerings.

So no plans for Mrs O and myself apart from a quiet time at home. We've bought some nice foodie treats; we're trying to be restrained and not gobble them before 25th.

No turkey, (no point with just the 2 of us), just a couple of chicken breasts on the day - but we'll have all the trimmings! :D

It's just the two of us again for Christmas Day, I'll cook a traditional dinner with all the trimmings as usual, no timetable we'll have it when we're ready. We quite like not having to watch the clock. We're driving to Z,M and the boys on Boxing Day which will be fun. They usually come to us, but as M is in the process of changing jobs they don't have a car at the moment. It only takes just over an hour to get there so should be fine. I don't intend to do the drive twice in one day, we're booked in to a hotel that night, will be nice to get up to a cooked brekkie before driving home.

No plans for NY, we did look at the local hotel parties, but as neither of us can dance at the moment decided it would be just as nice to spend the day here. I will do a special dinner, not decided what yet.

We don't have any firm plans. I haven't asked my parents yet, we're playing it more by ear. It's happened that John doesn't have much time off and both lads are working from the 27th and we don't really want Christmas Day to be a day of clock watching, which it is if my parents come as they like to eat early (their ideal time to eat would probably be before Joe gets up seeing as he's going to be out at a club until dawn! Oh to have the stamina of an 18 year old  ). Plus it means that John can have a drink with his dinner if he hasn't got to take them home afterwards. An easy slow get up and a walk with Bill and John before the lads get up and after opening presents is when I'll think about getting dinner done.

Shannon's coming over on Boxing Day, not sure what we're doing and I expect that Joe will be off out at some point too.

John thought he'd be off work from Christmas Eve until January 2nd, as they usually are every year, but it's so busy at the moment that he'll be working from the 27th. Work's been full on with him working 10+ hour days for weeks now and working away at weekends so he needs to make the most of the time off that he has.

Oh, we're going to the pub on Christmas Eve night and we might go to the cinema one evening, not sure what's on though so it depends.

We are going to Miss Osc's for Christmas dinner, we will cook the turkey, not sure of their timetable but as we live so near, the turkey can be taken out of the oven and brought to theirs while it is resting. Tomorrow, we will go into town for lunch and to soak up atmosphere. Usually we go quite early, but this year we are going later as many public buildings are lit up sp we want to see that. No plans for the rest of the week except dancing Friday evening and two little visitors for a sleepover on Saturday night.
