Yes, he's already far outstripped what was predicted for him academically, he would never have coped with university. We're all really proud of him

Frank, he said last year that he wasn't sure if engineering was for him but he did enjoy his work experience with John, which was working in the drawing office. John said he picked it up quickly and was soon understanding instructions and producing drawings. Joe said it's something he'd be interested in doing, whether he will when he comes to the end of his course I don't know.

He was determined to do his third year at college so I suppose that at least he'll have some qualifications at the end of it. John actually followed the same route as him, except he was an apprentice tool maker with full time college for a year and then day release. He had a couple of years on the factory floor once he'd finished it and then threw himself in at the deep end by applying and getting a job as a trainee project manager, did night classes and then got a job as a draughtsman, now he's managing the drawing office.

I often wondered if Joe would've been better training to be an electrician or plumber, getting a trade like that, but he wasn't interested, not even when I pointed out that our neighbours with the big houses are the self employed electricians and carpenters (mind you, the aslef official isn't doing too bad either!).
