New Zealand bush fire.

Postby Workingman » 10 Feb 2019, 21:47

The worst in over 50 years is raging on South Island near Nelson. It is apparently a town of 70,000 and some 3,000 homes have already been evacuated. High winds are fanning the flames.

I know our Weka is in Auckland on North Island, but it is coming to the end of the NZ summer and she is known to take the family off wild camping....

I sure hope that everyone stays safe.

It certainly is a worrying time with all these unusual weather episodes that are happening all over the Globe.

I wonder how long it will be before the powers that be, worldwide, realise that the drastic changes now taking place
are a direct consequence of mankind's activities, and that drastic changes in the way we live need to be adopted.
I have a feeling that when that time comes, it will be too late.

Forest/wild fores are scary and it's coming up to our fire season

The government here has passed several decrees about planting eucy trees in plantations, but as they self seed anyway

We're all supposed to keep our land clear and the majority do - but when 20 family members own land and they all live abroad, nothing will get done.

Also the local councils are supposed to keep road sides clear. The road from Ourique was done a couple of weeks ago  sadly, not all the way to our village

Probably too difficult to monitor, but if families are there for less that a certain time then they should have to pay additional taxes which the council should get so they can clear the properties for the absent landowners.

One day, that may happen, at the moment, it's rubbish

Salazar was good for the country in any respects, in others, sheer cxxp :cute:

We, by law, in one bathroom in the house, have to have a bidet :?  Why?

And it's still law, all new houses have to have one.

How on earth Mercedes got away with it here I have no idea.
