That's amazing Vic. I haven't seen a police officer on foot (or bike) since I can't remember when.
And round here, many police stations have been closed - Wakefield, Pontefract, Castleford, Normanton - to be replaced by one big police station on the fringes of am industrial estate.

Whilst I agree with you Ria, we also have the problem that Children learn faster than adults. In Glenrothes, in the 80's, we had a family called the Graham's. Or the family from hell. The father was a drug dealer and the three sons were thieves and totally disruptive. Of course they had to be treated the same as "everyone else", which was completely useless and they knew it. One day they stole a radio from a Taxi. When the ransom was offered, they walked back, bold as brass, with the radio and collected their money. At one point they had 80 children's panel cases against each of them. 240 of them in all.

Finally, through the actions of a strong local MP, they were evicted and wound up in Aberdeen. The drug gangsters in Aberdeen are of a different order than those in FIFE and Edinburgh. Within 5 years all Graham males from that family had been murdered.

#1 son had a real rant about knife crime last year at the dinner table. He and his fiancé are both officers. His statement was this. "You told us to go after knife crime. We analysed the situation, found that 95% of the crime was by young black males and we took action to stop it. You called us racists. F**k you you're on your own".

Quite.

If there is a significant problem where people are being murdered with weapons, yet the politicians and civil rights groups are determined to tie the hands of the police in dealing with it, then people are going to die. People are going to continue to die in greater and greater numbers until the politicians and civil rights groups wind their necks in and let the police get the job done. If some rights get bent along the way, that is the price of safety and security on the streets.

Just how many thousand of people must be murdered, with weapons which can be detected and found, because it is unacceptable to search the very people who are carrying the weapons?

Thousands you say? What thousands. 200 here, 200 there and pretty soon (a decade) and you are talking thousands.

It is time to swallow the methods needed to instil fear of the law in the minds of those who believe they can murder at will. Before it is far too late.

Here is a thought for you. When Rudy Giuliani cleaned up New York it was hailed as a major achievement. When asked what he did, he responded. "I just insisted that the police do their job, when they did it I backed them up fully and did not question how they did it".

Contrast what we do to the police today. We are turning our country into New York of the 70's. The solution is simple. Yes there need to be controls, but the police can carry them out internally. Yes abuses will happen. But the police do not tend, in general, to murder people.

Off soap box now.
