The train companies had a huge blitz on fare dodgers a few months ago and claimed to have caught out a large number of people without tickets, but perhaps they shouldn't make it so easy! With many stations down our line being unmanned you have to rely on either the temperamental ticket machine working (and not everyone has a card or wants to use a card for security reasons) or for the conductor to come through the train to sell tickets which only happens 50% of the time.
