Anybody want a thunderstorm?

Postby Workingman » 25 Apr 2019, 17:21

I have one to spare.

The lights are on as it has gone so dark and there is fork and sheet lightning with big rumbles to follow.... but not a drop of rain.

I am off to sit on the step and watch it unfold. 8-)

That was good, but the best I ever saw was at RAF St Athan in S. Wales towards the end of the heatwave of '76.

It started after the NAAFI shut at about 11pm and went on till about 3am. The light was purple and peach and ice green and so bright you could read a book - it just rolled on and on and on. It was like being right inside the Northern Lights with the volume turned up to max. It even got on the national news!

WM,
We only had snow when I was at St Athan. That was late 1953/early 1954.

We have had thunderstorms about 10 miles away but not overhead. The sun is shining but a lot of grey clouds still about

I love a good electrical storm ….. it's that sense of foreboding when everything goes still and you know it's on it's way ….

In another life I could easily have been a storm chaser. I absolutely adore storms and hight winds... so long as I am on dry land and not at sea. :o

We were forecast a storm for yesterday and it never happened. I felt so cheated, I love a storm!

I did get caught in a bad one once though, walking home from town. I've never seen rain like it, could hardly see where I was going and the A34 and footpaths outside our estate were knee deep in water and I had to clamber up the bank to get around it. The lightning was frighteningly close though and was blinding whenever it flashed.

I have a thunderstorm and heavy rain sounds app (or whatever you call it) on the Alexa and often play it in the background.

One thin I love Jo, in this house, is listening to rain, banging on the roof :D

We have cathedral ceilings everywhere, so can hear the rain, wind and even the blasted geckos
