Brexit and medication

Getting used to seasonal fruit and veg only might be a bit of a culture shock though! No soft fruit in the winter, peas too, and all sorts. Do we really want to go back to that, when we are used to so much variety?

I quite like the twin ideas of more home produced goods and food, but there are obstacles.

UK industry was in decline long before we joined the EEC / EU, so NOT a Brexit thing, and then Maggie finally killed the last bits of it off. Industry was replaced by services and the economy was propped up to a large extent by our North Sea riches and the big sell-off. We are now in huge debt, so I wonder where all the money is going to come from to pay for all these shiny new factories equipped with the latest tech making all the goodies we could ever want?

When it comes to food we have even more of a problem. The last time the UK was self-sufficient in food was in the late 1700's when the population was about 9 million. Today we are at 65 million and even with one of the most efficient agricultural systems on earth we only produce 55%-60% of our food, again nothing to do with Brexit / EU. Where are we going to get the land and climate from to produce the missing 40%-45%? The climate might warm up, but we are gobbling up land to build homes for an ever growing population.

I don't quite understand all this concern about the possible problems with relation to foodstuffs after Brexit.

I don't see why trade between the UK and Europe can't revert to what it was before.
Surely we and they will wish it to continue.

You would think so Aggers, but for that we need trade deals, and our government seen to be ignoring that fact, with barely six weeks to go
