Did I tell you about...

Postby Gal2 » 12 Jan 2020, 17:16

My Thursday last week?

After last week's fiasco where Jen and I planned to meet up for lunch, watch Little Women at the new Odeon cinema in town (with reclining seats) which flopped because we didn't pre-book and the screen was full (!!), we booked yesterday at the 1pm showing.

We both had things planned for the morning, so couldn't do lunch like before, but I went to Aqua (much needed first class after Christmas) had coffee with the girls, left in loads of time for the trip to town.....only to encounter nose to tail traffic starting on the outskirts and moving VERY slowly. A trip that would usually take about 10-15 minutes was taking 45, then 50 and although I was close to the car park, there were queues for that too!! Jen was texting to say she was parked and the film was about to start....my BP was up as my face was burning, so I turned round in the CP queue and headed across the bridge to another one that I've never used before. BUT as luck would have it, there was a sign saying spaces so I managed to park and we snuck into the cinema in pitch black after the beginning of the film!!

Thoroughly enjoyed it, we came out and thought we'd go and grab a coffee as neither of us had eaten apart from some popcorn and water Jen had in the cinema. Left each other at 4.30, I had no change for the CP but she assumed it would be card payment. Lifts were out of order so I walked down the three flights of stairs, only to find there is no card payment so I had to come back out, find a cash point, then go and find a kind shop to change the £20 I got!! I FINALLY got home shortly after 5!!!

(I've been back in to town today, slightly earlier than yesterday, and it's still busy but not as bad as y/day....I have no idea why this is so!!) Just thought the story might make you smile ;)

I'm just glad that I live where I live Gal 8-)

So used to horrendous traffic in Bristol, getting too and from work.

Now, a 15 minute drive to Ourique, we might, just might meet one car. Normally nothing at all :Hi:

Our traffic jams consist of sheep, pigs or a slow moving tractor

Glad you enjoyed the film :D

Hi Gal, glad you got the film sorted.

When it comes to traffic our local radio is constantly interrupted with updates and the system is..... woeful. The info is about as relevant as last week's TV guide. People even phone in to tell them that ABC St is now clear but that XYZ Road is rock solid and yet the next updates keep on about ABC St...

And some parking places either want to make life difficult or to catch you out. Snow Hill in Brum, for the meet, accepts app payments or cash (coins). It's a Brum app and I simply will not do any financial transactions by phone... not for anything. That leaves cash. Cash has to be paid up front and the only coins accepted are £1 or 50p. It was lucky I checked and was able to get to a bank to change notes into coins prior to calling in.

Had you got to see the film xxx

When I was working, parked in a multi-storey car park overnight before going to a meeting. It was free before 8.00 a.m. Had meaningful discussion with attendant as the time on the ticket machine was wrong. I had the car radio on and the time check for 8.00 a.m came on while we were talking. He had to let me out without paying. I then parked . near the docks so only a short walk to our office.
