Car Tax

Postby cruiser2 » 18 Feb 2020, 08:29

s I have been typing on my computer, I have seen a small white van go up and down the road. We live in a small cul-de-sac.
The van was from the Vehicle Licensing Agency.

Don't think they would find any de-faulters here but you never know.
There is one old car parked on the drive with a cover over it so you cannot see the number plate. Not been out on the road for over a year.

It could be on a SORN Cruiser (Statutory Off Road Notification). If it isn't the owner will be getting a notice soon.
There's something a bit off about the Vehicle Licensing Agency cruising around, trying to catch defaulters.

Especially when they have ANPR cameras everywhere and any coppers can check you from their police vehicles, and you then get checked again when you go for an MOT.

They don't even send a confirmation email when you do it online, all you get is an option to print the final page.... if you have a printer. The other day mine was not hooked up so I saved the page as a PDF for printing later so that I have a copy in the car along with a copy of the MOT and insurance - just in case.

I have seen cases on those policing programmes where cars have been seized due to no this or that only for it to be found out later that all the "paperwork" was in order.

I bought a car on a Sunday but didn't have anywhere to put the car except on street. Because I could not use the credit card online (French billing address), I had to go to the post office to tax it.

By the time I got back, Monday evening, the car had been clamped and I had to pay the fine to get it unlocked again.

They can say all they want, it is all about how much extra money they can make and nothing to do with avoiding the tax.

At least Cameron removed Blairs requirement to Sorn every year...

Our daughter's car has been under one of those, until she passes her test. It wasn't worth her paying tax on it, sitting on the drive
