Coronavirus....

Postby Ally » 14 Mar 2020, 09:29

The chief of the Junta de Andalusia declared all schools, colegios and universities closed until March 31 as of 2pm yesterday.

We had an emergency meeting before homework club yesterday to talk over a few things.
Those of us with exam students, that is, students taking the B1, B2 orC1 exam in June or July, will be setting up an online teaching platform to keep giving them exam work.

Many small shops are now closed as a precaution. The supermarkets and farmacias are staying open.

At the moment bars and restaurants are open and running normally. Time will tell.

Our friends Cath and Mick go to Benidorm every year for St Patrick's Day. Mick has just whatsapped Don to tell him every bar and restaurant there is closed.

Another two friends are on holiday in Lisbon and are spending most of their time in the hotel as the centre itself is virtually closed .

Scary times. Take care everyone. X

Most things are shut here too, although we haven-t got the virus in the Alentejo, yet.

A friends son is in hospital in Cornwall, on a ventilator, seriously ill. And he-s a super fit young man.

Very scary.

I've just been informed by Jet2 that all flights to Spain have been cancelled for the next two weeks.

Dad and I were due to travel with them a week tomorrow as I was flying over next Saturday to spend the night at dad's then accompany him here.

Michele and Mark have flights booked to Malaga but with easyjet on 6th April for a week and were due to be with dad at his apartment. Don and I have booked to go to Nerja for a couple of day on 5th April as part of our 30th wedding anniversary celebrations.

This is all surreal.

Best wishes for the young man Jan. xxx

Jan, thoughts for your friends' son - that's terrible. A sobering thought is that despite the hype over oldies, none of us are invulnerable …..

I have friends who were booked for a holiday break in Seville later this month. They cancelled last week.

Ahh, hadn't seen this thread when I asked Ally on the daily one...

Yes it's very concerning. My friend Anne goes to Tenerife every couple of months but Jet2 have cancelled all flights so they can't go this Friday as planned, Anne text today but she is really relieved they can't go - I would be too!

Jan that's awful, I hope the young man is ok xxx

Jan, that's terrible news, I hope he pulls through.

Ally, the news here is that the whole of Spain is in lockdown for two weeks. Jet2 turned back planes in the air today and has stopped all flights to Spain, including the Balearics and Canaries.

We might all be in this for the long haul. Stay safe.
