We're fine with it thanks Suff.

The Alentejo area only has one death so far and as yet, no cases in our area.

We're all being very careful.

Glad to hear it Jan. I've scoured the news for our town and I can't find any news that we have a single case. Our hospital is new and a local hub yet I'm sure a single case being transferred would have hit the news. Nothing.

Sometimes it is useful to be 1h driving distance from any city.

I had a call from a neighbour David the other day. He's one of the ones I give eggs to and because they're small 4 egg boxes I ask for them back so I can refill them. Anyway he called me to say that he apparently had mild symptoms, he's been given medication and was feeling fine but still.... just in case did I want the egg box back; I obviously said no ;-)

But then yesterday Trish, who lives underneath David popped round to mine to collect some dog food I had bought for her - keeping distance of course. I know that David and Trish don't get on so don't speak to each other so I asked Trish if David had told her that he apparently had mild symptoms and he hadn't which I thought was bang out of order esp as they use the same garden gate, possibly the handrail down the garden path etc. And Trish told me that she saw him pop out to the shops that morning??? Now David isn't stupid and he does have underlying heath issues (prostrate cancer that is being treated successfully) so it would surprise me; but no reason for Trish to be telling me something that wasn't true. Maybe he went to a place to collect a bag left out for him as we do have a few distribution centres set up - but I'd have thought that if he had symptoms he should stay indoors? Or is self isolation if living alone only 7 days - that would then tie in probably?

As said, all a bit odd and I'm sure all is OK - but my biggest issue with this is that David never told Trish and he should have!

Yep Ria, some people can be selfish.

Once you have symptoms, so far as I can understand, it is 7 days if the symptoms go away. As we can see from the PM, if they don't go away, then it is longer. But mild and symptoms gone, 7 days is the advice.

My son and I are taking 14 days just to be absolutely sure we haven't contracted anything. We have no symptoms of anything but that is not totally sure until the 14 days are over. Even then, as I understand it, the worst case seen was 21 days to symptoms.

On another topic, I am finding it quite hard to get contacts to get the right thanks to the Embassy. They only want to talk to you at arms length. Rather inconvenient when you want to commend someone.

Also I'd like to share my experience with the people trying to organise the flights to get people home. Lights on, nobody home.

The attitude of some people to this crisis beggars belief.

If this man, David, really does have mild symptoms and is receiving medication then he should not be going out at all. If he was my neighbour I would report him as he is a danger to the wider public. I know that sounds harsh, but he could be spreading it around the local area. I hope not, but why take the chance.

It's quite a worry that some people still don't get it. Plenty of evidence of that locally, according to the town's FB page. This weekend and Easter will be a test.

I'm feeling for one of our neighbours down the road.
Jane has two daughters, both married, both pregnant. She is upset obviously that she can't hug them or be with them as much as she wants to be. Plus Anna, the eldest daughter is due in three weeks and Jane has been told that because of present circumstances Anna won't be allowed a birth partner. Jane is frantic with worry.
