Anyone found any link to Covid-19 reinfections

Postby Suff » 18 May 2020, 18:03

Which were not later classified as a testing error?

I can't find any at all. I wondered if anyone had actually managed to keep some links which referred to these cases.

You will not find any because they do not exist, there are only theories. The research is ongoing because it is a new novel virus and the variables are all over the place - initial dose, genetics, age, current immune responses to other viruses, health, ethnicity - the list goes on.

Roche's 100% accurate antibody test has only been out a week with further tests in progress but the reinfection data is not there, as yet. Is immunity from reinfection implied? Yes. Is it guaranteed? No.

My guess is that you are going to use the 'fact' that there is nothing much about reinfections as 'proof' that it cannot happen and then go on to promote an agenda. Feel free.

Actually not WM, I was told, today, that there are recorded cases of reinfection all over the press.

I actually hadn't found any and wondered if anyone else had. The only cases I know of are the false positives in South Korea.

I also agree that implied = yes but certain = no. I do go a little further and think that with close on 2m people recovered and no real statistical evidence of reinfection that the implication is a bit stronger than the supposition that anyone can become reinfected.

But that is really all. I've already had my rant about bloody politicians and don't want to repeat it.

I did just want to reach out and see if I had slipped behind on the news.

There were reports of reinfections in South Korea a couple of weeks since Suff, but these were later put down to incorrect test results - people being told they'd already had cv when they hadn't.

Yes that I knew about.

Apparently CNBC had an article, today, about a US ship which had reinfected people on it. My son read it. He said the entire article read like "see people can be reinfected". The very last paragraph said that the on board medical team believed that their tests were not sensitive enough to show that the virus had not fully left the system and that, under constant viral load, the virus could emerge again.

I haven't seen it so have to take it second hand. But he was unimpressed.

I think that there is pretty clear evidence that under the right circumstances Any virus can infect anyone again. What I don't see is solid evidence that this virus is special and does not follow the standard virology path and immunity path. I believe that those who constantly talk down a vaccine have to prove just exactly why this virus is so different from, let us say, SARS, MERS or Swine flu. Especially given the lack of solid evidence, backed up by many cases, to prove the point

Other than that, I guess we all just get on with it. Personally I'd like the Antibody tests for both me and Mrs S. In the case where I might have been infected and didn't know it, I would quite happily be a guinea pig for the "immunity doesn't exist" test..... 8-)

Oh God, the 'reinfection' v 'resurgence' debate.

I was going to say that I made a false accusation, then I read the above.

So, no solid evidence means that we are as safe as houses, does it?

I don't talk down vaccines. As a 'vulnerable' individual I pray for one or many. However, I do talk UP the risks of cavalier attitudes to easing the lockdown seeing that many of us cannot follow simple rules, and I will continue to do so!

Look about you, go to a park or beauty spot, 2m rules eh, no groups other than those sharing isolation, public transport. Give me a four king break.

Suff, as ex mil you know damned well that we were never under lockdown. At best we were on restricted duties: jankers.

I do know perfectly well that we were never under lockdown. Well you weren't. In France we were more restricted and it was policed fairly firmly and you had to attest to what you were doing.

But again, no, we were not locked down. I've had the cell door slammed in my face and you damned well know you are locked down.

I did, really, want to know if I had missed something.

Other than that, I do have an opinion on whether or not authorities should be held to a standard of evidence when they make vague predications without underscoring them with numbers.
