Next doors guests do have a habit of peering over the fence

Only to see what is on the other side - and it's me, having breakfast. I wave, they almost run away

Where have all the bugs gone?
We had a wasp in the bathroom this morning, the first one we've had all year. In previous years we have had moths on the bathroom window at night when the light is on. This year, nothing.
Hardly any flies (I can stand that!), or butterflies. Only the busy bees on the lavender are the same.
Strange.

Complete dearth of dragonflies down on the river this year. I guess it simply hasn't been hot enough. We've a few of the "aristocrat" butterfies around - Red Admirals mainly - but no Tortoiseshells.

What we have got, unfortunately, is a plague of rats - all the neighbours are reporting them. They are brazenly coming into the gardens in daylight hours this year. There's little point us trying to "control" them because we're next to the local country park; the local population will inevitably be huge.
