I can’t get my head around my in laws.
They live in South Wales, slap bang in the middle of a local lockdown area. T works at the hospital which was in the news the other week for having a large outbreak and a number of deaths. One of her daughter in laws is a care worker and actually tested positive around two weeks ago.

Anyway, it was the middle nephew’s birthday at the weekend so T put on a party at home. She had 13 people from 6 different households in her house.

When we were there at the end of August we were being very careful although they didn’t have as strict a set of restrictions as us then and we weren’t really seeing much in the way of rising numbers then anyway. We were asked around to T’s to meet the new baby in the family...and people just kept coming. At one point there were 7 households in the conservatory (which is large so that was one blessing).

Is it any surprise that numbers are increasing?

This "I would...." thing gets silly.

There has been a crash on a motorway and the police spokesman opened up three consecutive sentences with "I would appeal, I would also urge and I would ask."

When will he be appealing, urging and asking - next week, December?

Just say "I appeal - urge - ask" and get on with things.

Randomly returning to the subject of flu jabs, our surgery announced back in September that they would be running flu clinics as normal, but this year, don't call them to arrange your appointment, wait to be phoned by them, as they had a list of known eligible and priority patients and they would be working initially from that. So we waited and waited, but got no telephone call, so I got proactive and emailed them, eventually arranging our jabs for the clinic on 3rd October.

The flu clinics have now finished, but I'm hearing anecdotally there's loads of eligible patients out there who had read the surgery's edict not to contact them, had duly waited like us, never got any call, didn't follow it up themselves - and now it seems they've totally missed out on getting the jab. Let's just say surgery admin has not exactly covered themselves with glory over this .....
