What are your Christmas plans?

Postby JoM » 20 Dec 2020, 19:33

We usually have my parents here for Christmas Day and there’s usually a trip to Wales to John’s family either the weekend before or during the week between Christmas and New Year.

We decided some weeks ago that it’s not worth the risk this year so it’ll just be the four of us here.
My parents are 87 and 85 and have barely left the house since March, my Mom’s only been out to get her flu jab. John’s family have a total disregard for the rules despite his sister and one of her daughter in laws working at a local hospital, their plans for Christmas Day see six households coming together so we’re steering well clear. They’ve got more bubbles than an Aero in that house.

We’d talked about what to do and it seems that my parents had too and they brought it up first, saying that they’d give it a miss this year so we’ll postpone a family Christmas dinner until we can all get together. Mother in law was less pleased and John’s tried to talk to her about being careful but she doesn’t listen, it’s a worry as she’s looking quite frail.

I think you're being very sensible Jo. As for your in-laws, well done people just can't be told - crazy :o xxx

It will definitely just be us in our little bubble here. Either D will come for her lunch, or if she doesn't feel up to it, we will go to her in the afternoon.

Christmas eve for about an hour at my sister's with her 'sister' from another mother and her hubs - just the five of us.

Once home I will put a teat on a bottle of single malt and relax, be very relaxed.

Jo, you are sensible, the others, pah! Love the Aero analogy.

I agree Jo you're being very sensible.

It will be just the two of us this year, we normally have Christmas day on our own and spend Boxing day with Z and the boys, but not this year. Z will drive down to us this Tuesday and will do a distance present swap, a bit like a supermarket delivery lol and then we'll wait to see if its safe for her to bring the boys down sometime in the new year. Not to actually visit, but for a day on the seafront, with a brief stop here for a quick chat and a wave. It will feel a bit strange, but it is what it is and safety comes first.

I'm so sorry Saundra, I know it's much harder for you being on your own xxx

Yes, the Aero analogy was very good ....

Master O stayed here last week for a few days before heading back to Eastbourne. He restarts work back at the hospital tomorrow with an overnight shift. So we had our "Christmas" meal whilst he was here.

Mrs O and I won't be meeting anyone else over this Christmas and New Year, it will just be a simple quiet time - ourselves and the TV.

I also think you are doing the right thing Jo.

We have mum coming to us (she’s in our bubble) from Xmas eve to the 27th. Micks parents decided they couldn’t manage our stairs so are staying in their own - which I have to say I’m quite pleased about. They have been out abs about everywhere and having every man and his dog in their flat the whole way through.

My mum has been really careful and just bubbled up with us.

Lucy and Dan (after a long zoom conversation with me, Mick and Dans mum) decided back in April that they were going to continue seeing each other and flit between his house and ours. It was a difficult one as Dans mum is vulnerable and Lucy is front line but we all knew back in April this could go on for 1 year plus and although they are serious about each other they aren’t ready to commit by moving in together so as an extended family we agreed that we were happy with the flitting backwards and forwards between houses was ok.

So she’s with us Xmas eve and Xmas day morning, at work on Xmas day 3 til 12 and then going to Dans after work to spend Boxing Day with them.

Shelby is going to Jude’s mums.

Normal just us on Christmas Eve and curry for dinner, as normal. For the first time in five years, just us on Christmas Day too.

On Saturday, we are hosting a small gathering of six - all very local, all very, very careful people. Lucy has massive heart problems, so we make sure that we all are distanced. But it's Chris's birthday so will be having a dinner here.
