I was driving home from my regular Sunday voluntary thing today and passed our next door neighbours walking up the hill, which means that whatever direction they had come in they had walked through the village (bearing in mind we are a tourist area and the visitors obviously think we are covid clear as they keep coming) so there are generally quite a few people about. They are a young couple, mid 30's, with a 9 year old daughter.
I almost stopped to offer them a lift but decided that I really didn't want 3 people in close contact with me in the car.
I got home to find the local vicar, who had given a covid kit collecting man a lift up the hill as his van wouldn't come up our lane. They were both looking very unhappy and stressed. I asked them who they were looking for (we don't tend to have house names or numbers on our houses up here) and they said my neighbours who must be in as the man was collecting covid tests!! I told them that I had just passed them walking up the hill. The vicar was furious! I have never seen him so cross.
When I went up to my door, I passed theirs and there was a sign stuck to the door saying "Kit collector. Kit in cool box" and a cool box on the doorstep.
What an earth do people not understand about not going out!! If they had really needed some fresh air they could have climbed over the back fence straight into a field that no one would be in - that was what I was doing with the dog when I had to isolate those two weeks. There is no public footpath running through it, it backs on to the moors so no houses around and in the 27 years we have lived here, other than cows, I have never come across anyone up there. But no, they decided to go for a walk which meant going through the village. They had obviously been gone on a long walk as they had a back pack with them.
Mick said he saw them going up the lane yesterday on a walk - again with a back pack.
The kit collection man did say that he would have to report them.
I am furious. What a stupid, stupid thing to do.
