The political cost of Covid rolls on

Trump was the first, but he won't be the last. Merkel's CDU got a trouncing in the regional elections in Germany last night, almost totally over the handling of the Covid vaccine rollout. Not even the German handling of the rollout, but the EU Major Screwup.

I said it at the time with Trump that he would be the first but he would not be the last. The thing is people expected an unquantifiable "more" from their politicians. As if they had some way of making this just not happen without a vaccine, that nobody would lose their jobs and nobody would have to pay the price tag for the unprecedented borrowing and spending needed to keep the economy afloat during a global disaster area.

I wonder who gave them that idea? Live by the sword, die by the sword....

So the CDU comes up next, but they're by no means the last. It is going to look even worse when the UK walks away from this mess first, head held high, having handled the vaccine side of the pandemic masterfully. Comparisons are already being drawn. Bunnies are not happy.

A large part in the CDU's downfall has been it's handling of the pandemic, certainly of late. The other large part(s) have been the Covid procurement corruption scandals that forced the resignations of three senior party politicians.

At least in Germany they resign, unlike here in the UK.

Ah well. it's Germany, and as I don't live there I don't get a vote.

Not if you support the CDU / CSU. However if you support other parties and their views it's party time.

No, I was thinking AfD, Golden Dawn, Sweden Democrats, Le Pen and National Assembly have had a huge boost.

Geert Wilders is supposed to getting a boost and to become the second largest Dutch party but as they have full PR, their political system is chaotic with up to 30 parties and grand coalitions all the way. Nobody will work with Wilders, but his party grows in strength.

The Tories must be worshiping at the altar of divine intervention that the parliament allowed an election in 2019. At least 3 more years to go. Some politicians around the world, today would rent their soul out for 3 more years before facing the public.
