Scottish election 2021: Hopes for SNP majority continue to fade as more support slips away, shows poll

SNP hopes of a majority at next month’s Holyrood elections continue to fade as another poll shows the party is set to narrowly miss out on returning more than 65 MSPs

Support for the union is now on 48 per cent, with those stating they would vote Yes now sitting at 45 per cent, with a further 8 per cent saying they did not know.

With don’t knows excluded, support for No sits at 52 per cent and Yes at 48 per cent.

Figures from the poll put SNP support in the constituency vote at the same level as their final result in 2016 with 46 per cent of the vote.

Not happy reading for Sturgeon. Although the Greens see more relevance in government with levers on supporting independence. So the vote will probably go ahead again.

The Scotsman is a "No" supporting Liberal and Unionist 'lite' paper so it is no surprise that its poll shows a hung parliament.

A poll of polls, Don't Knows excluded, puts the SNP on 49%. It's too close to call.

I would like to see Labour's Sarwar's approval ratings translate into seats, but it does not look likely.

Really? The Scotsman is predicting the Tories dropping to 22 seats with Labour being the main opposition on 24: SNP to get 67.

Sturgeon has today admitted that the SNP "have not modelled" what the economic effect of independence might be on Scotland.
So the SNP want independence but don't know how it might affect the Scottish economy.
Unbelievable.

Probably a shrewd move given that economic forecasts predict a further 6.5% to 8.7% decline to go with the overall UK drop because of Brexit and Covid.

At least she was honest about the border between Scotland and the rest of GB should Scotland somehow manage to re-join the EU if it gets independence - it could be a hard one.

I don't think that she had a choice about the border given what is happening in NI right now.

As for the GDP, Covid might have taken away the fear, we lost 10% In 2020, the world didn't end. I'm not saying it is a sensible position, just one that could be sold.
