An example of the efficacy of the Covid vaccines

Postby Suff » 27 May 2021, 15:38

We all heard about Moray, more than 100 cases per 100,000 and not coming out of lockdown.

I missed the reduction to level 2 on Saturday. Today I found a BBC article talking about the cases there.

The Covid outbreak in Moray is now "well under control" and the incident management team dealing with it has been closed,

Also.

Earlier this month, the area had the highest level of Covid in the country, with more than 100 cases per 100,000 and test positivity was above 3%.

Those numbers have now dropped to about 17 cases per 100,000 and 0.9% of tests coming back positive. The region is now seeing its lowest rates since before Christmas.

Where test and trace didn't work, test trace and vaccinate is working.

It is data like these which will drive the final stage of the ending of lockdown on June 21st. Not press hysteria or "scientists" being pessimistic.

Unfortunately for your hypothesis Suff, today Johnson and Hancock have sais we "might have to wait" - that Jun 21st might not happen.
Plus the Prime Minister of the UK, Professor Neil Ferguson, has said that unlocking on June 21st is "in the balance".
What a shock!
Said nobody at all.
As soon as a relaxation date approaches here come SAGE with a scare story and knock knock knock go Boris Johnson's knees.
What's up? Aren't the vaccine passports/social credit cards ready yet?
More than 300,000 cancer referrals have been missed. Some people's "safety" has been bought at a very dear price for others.

Last week there were 16,107 cases compared to this week of 19,412, a rise of 472 per day (3,305 total), but at the same time we are doing an extra 14,184 test per day. The % of positives to total tests has hardly deviated from the norm.

Since late April the number of hospitalisations has bumped along at about 110, in the range of 130-78. During the same period those in hospital has been in the range of 1,492-882. The current trend is down and stands at about 920. Those on ventilators is static at about 125.

Deaths have averaged 7.5 per day between 14-3.

My take is that they are fearful of public fatigue with the lockdown and are trying to manage our expectations by getting us to "behave properly" for the next few weeks. As things stand we are unlikely to substantially better the above figures for some time yet, and also we must accept that there will be bumps in the road.

But get this re the Indian variant:
Mr Hancock told the briefing on Thursday: "The latest estimates are that more than half and potentially as many as three-quarters of all new cases are now of this variant.

Err 19,412 new cases in the last week of which it is claimed that 6,959 were of the Indian variant. That's not 75% or even 50%, Matt, try about 35% and stop lying to us.

I didn't miss the part where Bojo Said that whilst we may have to wait a bit longer, the numbers did not currently support a delay.

So whilst the press leads with "WE MIGHT NOT UNLOCK", they bury the "the numbers still support unlocking" into a very few words then obsessively talk about how the government is going to renage.

The government said "wait and see" we'll know more next week.

I'm not disagreeing with one word of what you are saying about the efficacy of the vaccines Suff. The mutuant / Indian / killer / might beat the vaccine strain? The vaccine is 97% effective against it. Of the people who have caught it in Bolton, only 3% of them have had both jabs.

But there is just absolute screaming hysteria in this country now. Every day we get more doom laden crap about what possibly / might / could / maybe going to happen.
There is enormous pressure on the government even now to postpone June 21st.
The media are totally unbalanced and obsessed.
It's lunacy, but it's where the UK is atm.

Agree it is madness.

Not helped by the short term bubble of cases. Not due to the Indian variant but due to the number of people who broke the law, flouted regulations and lied about their journeys so they could visit a virus hot-spot. Only to then carry it back and give it to their loved ones and local community.

Not much about that story is there.

And the law breakers, regulations flouters and liars were let in by whom.....

Was it the WHO, India, the EU? It could not have been our government, could it?

No. We banned the flights and closed the borders, didn't we?

No we didn't and we did not back trace the flights either to see if they were lying. But then a significant number also used dual passports to get around that.

This latest bubble is due to a lack of personal responsibility and a disregard for the law.

So what do we do?

Let them off? Let them run free? Let them use their dual passports to flout our laws?

Not in my world, and I suspect not in that of many others. This whole issue stinks of PC and is not right.
